Four Short Eschatological Poems copyright 2012, Paul Hawkins i there aint no thing but what God wrought what Moses read what Jesus taught in our being in our breath, in the hour of our death in the nail-scarred outstretched hand in Eden and the Promised land and what lies after in our tears and in our laughter in our families and our love all these our Lord's mercies prove and might, one silver strand and one pure light and may he keep us day and night.  ii  "Come round from far and near and hear of seven sacred salts each one bestows a gift in which the human form exalts - to run, to jump, to leap, to fly to never sick and never die to never ask and never prove to never risk and never love Each one bestows a sacred balm to fit you for a world to come, to live life perfumed for a tomb."  iii  So he rallied them with Heaven til they followed him to Hell and found out all his hymns were but the tolling of a bell.  iv  An angel rides Earth like a chariot, its sphere enfolded in his wings, and steers it towards oblivion and the blessings that it brings. To plunge it through a purging fire to burn distortion from desire, to yoke our willfulness to purpose, to cast us towards what came before us.

Four Short Eschatological Poems

i

there aint no thing but what God wrought what Moses read what Jesus taught

in our being in our breath, in the hour of our death

in the nail-scarred outstretched handin Eden and the Promised land and what lies after

in our tears and in our laughter in our families and our love

all these our Lord's mercies prove and might,

one silver strand and one pure lightand may he keep us day and night.

ii

"Come round from far and near and hear of seven sacred salts

each one bestows a gift in which the human form exalts -to run, to jump, to leap, to fly

to never sick and never die

to never ask and never proveto never risk and never love

Each one bestows a sacred balm

to fit you for a world to come,

to live life perfumed for a tomb."

iii So he rallied them with Heaven

til they followed him to Hell

and found out all his hymns were butthe tolling of a bell.

iv

 An angel rides

Earth like a chariot,

its sphere enfolded in his wings, and steers it towards oblivion

and the blessings that it brings.

To plunge it through a purging fireto burn distortion from desire,

to yoke our willfulness to purpose,

to cast us towards what came before us.
