Birthdays at Four Seasons Elementary

Recently more and more students are reporting food allergies In the past

we only had to worry about nut allergies but now we have students who are allergic to diary eggs tree nuts peaches dyes wheat and citrus as well as those who are lactose intolerant and who need a gluten-free diet We also have several students with diabetes With that comes the concern of children eating something that activates their allergies We have discovered that some ingredients go by 5 or 6 different names It is extremely difficult for us to ensure that treats are safe

Because of this concern we have decided that food treats will no longer be allowed for birthdays We do understand the importance of birthday celebrations with friends at school therefore we are asking that instead of food you can send in pencils erasers pencil toppers stickers or some other non-edible product to help celebrate the day Parents can also donate a book or board game to the class in honor of the birthday but no food

I appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter As a school community we are all responsible for keeping our students safe

Anne Arundel County Public Schools is providing free breakfast and lunch to children ages 2ndash18 Monday through Thursday There are no income or registration requirements
