PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Our annual show went as smooth as we could have expected. Not only did we have an incredible group of volunteers on Friday. We had even more ready to take down the show on Sunday. This is why our show was bigger than expected. Our club is united together to deliver the best bonsai show we can offer to the public and ourselves.
This year we had a multitude of new trees shown for the first time. Our raffle had a wide variety of items donated from our members, vendors, and our friends and partners at Bordines Nursery. We also had two exceptional trees designed by Jennifer Price. If that wasn't enough, we had five vendors who traveled as far as Tennessee and Northern Michigan. They offered everyone incredible bonsai trees, supplies, and a wide variety of pots at a reduced cost. We are looking for everyones input and help to deliver a historic 50th anniversary show next year. Stay tuned for details. Thanks again to everyone who donated time, muscle, brains and their trees!
Michael Corbeille Club President 248 250 3602 [email protected]
If you attended our annual show this year, you witnessed an overwhelming display of bonsai. Each tree was presented with stands, accent trees and unique items to elevate their display. A perfect combination of classic Japanese style presentations with unique personalized dioramas.
Scrolls, stones and an exceptional Shohin display had camera phones working overtime. CHRIS BAKER

CHRIS BAKER CURRATOR OF CHICAGO BONSAI GARDEN
FOUR SEASONS BONSAI CLUBof MICHIGAN
AUGUST 22rd 2019 www.fourseasonsbonsai.com
In April 2014, Chris Baker began work as the first full-time curator of bonsai at the Chicago Botanic
Garden, where he maintains approximately 175 bonsai trees. Baker has been studying and working
on bonsai for more than 13 years. Previously, he was an intern and volunteer at the United States
National Arboretum's National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in Washington, D.C. As an active member
of the Maryland bonsai community, Baker gave many demonstra-
tions and talks at the Potomac Bonsai Association Spring Show
in Washington, D.C., as well as to garden clubs. Baker spent six
months in 2012 studying bonsai with third-generation bonsai
master Tohru Suzuki at the Daijuen Nursery in Okazaki, Japan.
Baker has always had an interest in horticulture, but his introduc-
tion to bonsai started with his purchase of a bonsai juniper as
a gift for a friend. When asked why he is so passionate about
bonsai, Baker says, "Bonsai is a representation of the beauty and
power of nature; it's the perfect mix of artistry, horticulture, and
mechanical skills—it's living art."

HONORARY MENTIONS
OUR HONORARY SHOW JUDGE, JENNIFER PRICE TRANSFORMATIONS TWO TREES THAT WERE WON BY TWO LUCKY RAFFLE WINNERS.We were honored to have Jennifer Price as our honorary judge for our 49th Annual Show. Her talents were show-cased during her styling session on two unique trees. Jennifer began the show assisting with our beginner's workshop and ended the event judging our intermediate level bonsai artist styling competition. She took the time to give club members a walking critique of all the trees in the show and explained her process for awarding ribbons to the top trees in their class. Jennifer Price is a true friend to our club and our friends in Ann Arbor.
