Exploratory Schedule• 6th Grade Exploratory Classes (Electives)

are during 5th block, the last class of the day from 2:21pm-3:30pm. Students will have an elective class all year during 5th block.

• Electives are on an A/B schedule

• All students will have 2 electives every semester with a total of 4 for the whole year: an A day elective and a B day elective. A typical week looks like this: Monday= A day, Tuesday= B day, Wednesday= A day, Thursday= B day, Friday=A day

Page 25: Four Oaks Middle Welcomes future 6 th graders. Mr. David Cobb Principal

Electives Continued

• Chorus and Band are year long courses. If a student chooses either of these they will have that class all year and another elective will be assigned to them by the front office.

• Students who do not choose chorus or band will have all the other elective classes during the school year and these will be assigned by the front office. Students cannot choose any classes except Band or Chorus

Page 26: Four Oaks Middle Welcomes future 6 th graders. Mr. David Cobb Principal

Band• Band is a year long class

• Students do not have to have any prior experience and are allowed to choose to start on 5 instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, or Trombone. Students will be placed on other instruments by audition and/or the at the director’s discretion.

• The instrument rental meeting will be 2 weeks after schools starts. We will be renting from Edwards Music.

Page 27: Four Oaks Middle Welcomes future 6 th graders. Mr. David Cobb Principal

Band Continued• If a student is using a school instrument (depending on

inventory) you must sign a contract to use the instrument. You are financially responsible for damage to school instruments. This is a district policy.

• There will be a band handbook with all policies and procedures sent home at the beginning of the year that both the students and parents need to review and sign.

• There are 2 concerts each year, 1 in the Fall and 1 in the Spring. The concerts are a grade and students in the class are expected to attend and perform. The Spring Concert is Tuesday, May 19th at 7pm in the FOMS gym. We encourage you to attend.

Page 28: Four Oaks Middle Welcomes future 6 th graders. Mr. David Cobb Principal

Cardinal Chorus

• Chorus is a year long class. Anyone can be in chorus. Prior experience is not necessary. You do not have to audition to be in chorus.

• There are 4 ensemble groups that are auditioned out of Chorus: Showcase, the musical cast and company, The Cardinal Chorus Dance Team, and any solos sung at the concerts.

• Chorus is a pre-requisite for Showcase and the musical. Our Musical next year will be “A Christmas Carol”.

• Chorus is a pre-requisite to audition for the Cardinal Dance Team. No experience is required for the dance team. Chorus students may also audition for solos that will be performed at the concerts.

Page 29: Four Oaks Middle Welcomes future 6 th graders. Mr. David Cobb Principal

Cardinal Chorus• Students must be in chorus to audition for any of these

activities. However students DO NOT have to audition for any of the solos or ensembles. Many chorus students prefer to just sing in the choir. There is a place for everyone in chorus to participate in the way that best fits them!

• There will be a chorus handbook with all policies and procedures sent home at the beginning of the year that both the students and parents need to review and sign.

• There are 2 concerts each year, 1 in the Fall and 1 in the Spring. The concerts are a grade and students in the class are expected to attend and perform. The Spring Concert is Tuesday, May 12th at 7pm in the FOMS gym. We encourage you to attend.
