2 Kings 6:25

• And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

Page 5: Four Men With Leprosy…

• The siege was so severe that large sums of money were paid for food --- a donkeys head or dove’s dung• The donkey was an unclean

animal under the law

2 Kings 6:26-29

• And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?..

Page 7: Four Men With Leprosy…

• And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

Lev. 26:29

• And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

Page 9: Four Men With Leprosy…

Deut. 28:53

Deut. 28:57

• And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness, wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.

• Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria…• .

Page 12: Four Men With Leprosy…

• Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof

I. The four lepers and what they faced – 2 Kings 7:3-4

• And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here,…

Page 14: Four Men With Leprosy…

• we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

Page 15: Four Men With Leprosy…

• Hungry• Hopeless• No one to help them• They would throw themselves on

the mercy of the Syrians

Page 16: Four Men With Leprosy…

Lev. 13:46

• And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.

Page 17: Four Men With Leprosy…

• All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

Page 18: Four Men With Leprosy…

2 Kings 7:5

• And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

II. The work of God– 2 Kings 7:6-7

• For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

Page 20: Four Men With Leprosy…

• Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

III. The four leper and what they found – 2 Kings 7:8

• And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

Page 22: Four Men With Leprosy…

• They found food, clothing, riches• For a moment they were

consumed in what they had

Page 23: Four Men With Leprosy…

Mt. 6:19

• Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Page 24: Four Men With Leprosy…

IV. They came to themselves – 2 Kings 7:9-10

• Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household…

Page 25: Four Men With Leprosy…

• So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

Page 26: Four Men With Leprosy…

• These men had a good heart• Although they were outcasts due

to their leprosy, they still thought of their brethren

• Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

Page 28: Four Men With Leprosy…

1 Jn. 3:16-17

• Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.?...

Page 29: Four Men With Leprosy…

• But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him

• And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria: And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven,

Page 31: Four Men With Leprosy…

• might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof. And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
