Chalk Painting Students learn a variety of mixed-media methods including chalk and paint to re-create their favorite animals.

Watercolour Cardinals or Bluejays Learn the basics of watercolour using an illustrated watercolour technique. Step by step demonstra-tions of watercolour tips and tricks. All grade levels

Matisse’s Window Henri Matisse was an artist often regarded as the most important French painter of the 20th century. The leader of the Fauvist movement around 1900, Matisse pursued the expressiveness of colour throughout his career. Students re-create one of Matisse’s most famous paintings in their own style using soft pastel. All grade levels.

Emily Carr: Charcoal and Paint Carr is remembered primarily for her painting. She was one of the first artists to attempt to capture the spirit of Canada in a modern style. Previously, Canadian Painting had been mostly portraits and representational landscapes. Students will capture the style of Carr in their charcoal paintings. All grade levels.

Group of Seven Students will discuss Lawren Harris, a member of the Group of Seven, and use chalk pastels to create our beautiful Province or city. All grade levels.

Tempera Batik Batik is an ancient Japanese resist printing technique. This faux methods renders paintings with a cracked batik effect. All grade levels.

Design Your Own Fieldtrip

Do you have an Idea but don't know how to create it? Fieldtrips can be Uniquely Designed to meet the needs of individual classrooms and age of participants. A Variety of Materials, Specific Artists and Art Movements can be discussed and created in your classroom. All grade levels.

Wild Poppy Watercolours Watercolor can be a tricky medium to master. Students will learn helpful tips, essential techniques, and step-by-step demonstrations on using watercolors. All grade levels.

Lighthouse Watercolours and Pencil Crayon Learn the basics of watercolour using an illustrated watercolour technique. Step-by-step demonstrations on painting wet-in-wet and pencil crayon will be shown. All grade levels

Georgia OKeeffe - Watercolours Georgia O'Keeffe created her beautiful, detailed paintings by closely observing the world around her. Learn about this famous female artist and her technique of monumen-tal abstraction. Using O’Keeffe’s methods, students will create beautiful watercolor paint-ings of enormous plants and flowers. All

Killer Whale Paintings After learning the basics of watercolour, students will learn more complicated techniques, and step-by-step demonstrations on using watercolors and resist methods will be shown. Intermediate grade levels.

Pastel and Watercolour Penguins Students create penguins using pastel, pearl, and watercolour techniques All grade levels.

Abstract Repousse The ancient art of embossing or pressing shapes into metal to create a design. This process has been used for thousands of years to make everything from jewelry to religious Icons. It’s almost a lost art today. All grade levels.

Drawing, Painting, Mixed-Media Printmaking

Introduction to Blockprinting Block printing involves etching an image into the plate, inking, and transferring the images to paper. Two or more colour prints will be created depending upon time and skill level. All grade levels.

Collographs and Joan Miro Miro's works were often playful, spontaneous, and dreamlike. His surrealistic pictures often consisted of large areas of bright colors. Students create collographs using Miro’s unique

style. Intermediate grade levels.

Under the Sea Glazes Students learn how to glaze with paint while creating salt water fish. A glaze refers to a layer of transparent paint. A glaze changes the color cast or texture of the surface. All grade levels.

Gustav Klimt Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist artist. Students learn to re-create symbols designed during Klimt’s ‘Gold’ period of ART NOUVEAU décor. All grade levels.

“The Scream” - Charcoal Mixed Media Edvard Munch was the impressionist who created “The Scream”. The artwork was his most famous work and one of the most recog-nizable images in modern art. The piece is said to depict life, love, and fear. Students will re-create The Scream in their own form de-picting emotions charcoal and paint. All grade levels.

Collage and Stamping Students create a mixed-media creation involving collage and stamp printmaking. Perfect for a Winter Snowman or Spring Bunny Theme! Primary grade level.

Sand Art Butterflies Students will create animal imagery with sand! Primary grade level.

Scaredy Cats Students will use a variety of materials to create this very “Scaredy” Cat. Primary grade level.

Monoprints Monoprint printmaking offers the opportunity to paint directly on Plexiglas using various colors and “pulling” the print directly from the Plexiglas allowing for large areas of flat colour. All grade levels.

Paint and Print Students will create a colourful background to apply their sea turtle prints. This project combines watercolour and blockprinting. All grade levels.
