    • Binder
    • Solvent/Liquid Carrier
    • Additives
  • WHAT IS PAINT? contd
    • Pigments give colour and opacity/covering power.
    • The binder is the material that forms the film, giving protection and keeping the pigment in place and evenly dispersed.
    • The solvent is used to effect the application of the coating. It thins the paint or varnish, allowing it to be brushed or sprayed.
    • Additives are used, in small amounts, to modify the film or paint. eg. quick drying, flow control etc
  • Types of Paints
    • OIL PAINT
    • Oil paint is a type of slow-drying paint.Common modern applications of oil paint are in finishing and protection of wood in buildings and exposed metal structures.
    • Its hard-wearing properties and luminous colors make it desirable for both interior and exterior use on wood and metal.

  • Types of Paints
    • ENAMEL PAINT
    • Enamel paints are a kind of hard paint with a glossy finish. Enamel paints can be made by adding varnish in ordinary oil-based paint.
    • Enamel paint is also used on wood to make it resistant to external elements through the waterproofing and rot proofing characteristics of enamel. Enamel painted surfaces are longer lasting and more resistant to wear and tear than unpainted or untreated surfaces.
    • Varieties of Enamel Paints
    • Floor Enamel : it is used for concrete surfaces, stairs, basements, porches and patios.
    • Fast Dry Enamel : fast drying enamels dry within 15-20 minutes of their application. Ideal for painting refrigerators, counters and for other industrial finishes.
    • High-temp enamel : high temperature enamel paints are extremely heat resistant.
    • Anti rust enamel : used for painting rust susceptible items.

    • DISTEMPER
    • Distemper is an early form of whitewash, also used as a medium for artistic painting, usually made from powdered chalk or lime and size (a gelatinous substance).

    • Copper Pipe - best option to supply hot/cold water to a modern house
    • Plastic Pipe - cheapest pipe used for domestic use
    • PVC or polyvinyl chloride - as sewers, drain pipes and cold water pressurised water piping
    • CPVC or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride for hot and cold water supply applications.
  • Traps
    • A trap is a U-, S-, or J-shaped pipe located below or within a plumbing fixture.

    • P-trap
    • Q-trap
    • S-trap
    • Nahani trap
    • Gully trap
  • Trap
  • P-Trap
    • This trap is used with Indian water closet . The traps are made from cast iron or UPV sheet. This trap also has water seal and prevents entry of foul gases to the house.
  • S-Trap
    • This trap is similar to P- trap and is used for fixing water closets in toilets. The only difference between P- trap & S- trap is that P- trap is used for outlet through the wall whereas S. trap is used for outlet through the floor.
  • Q-Trap
    • This trap is used in toilet under water closet. It is almost similar to S trap and is used in upper storey other than ground floor.
  • Nahani Trap
    • This trap is provided in the floor to collect waste water from washbasin, shower, sink and bathroom etc. These are available in cast iron or UPVC material and have removable grating (JALI) on the top of the trap. The minimum depth of water seal should be 50 mm.
  • Nahani Trap
  • Gully Trap
    • These traps are constructed outside the building to carry waste water discharge from washbasin, sinks, bathroom etc. and are connected to the nearest building drain/sewer so that foul gases from sewer do not come to the house.
    • These are deep seal traps, the depth of water seal should be 50 mm minimum.
