Why should you become a Barktoberfest sponsor?

Your partnership is supporting the animals and lifesaving programs offered through the Humane Society of Washington County. Our mission is to raise awareness to save, protect, and advance the lives of the animals in Washington County and surrounding communities, and your support allows us to fulfill that mission. There is strength in numbers, and with your help you are strengthening our spay/neuter and foster/adopt programs and backing our initiative of becoming a no-kill community.

The 2019 Barktoberfest event will be held at Founders Park in downtown Johnson City. Here we will have live entertainment, a Halloween costume contest, Bark or Treat village, a puppy bowl, canine demonstrations, a Monster Mile walk and more! This is a huge hit for both two-legged and four-legged friends alike, the 2018 Barktoberfest event attracted more than 300 people and their pets! We anticipate even more attendees this year due to this growingly popular event.

Your partnership is helping save a life of a helpless animal that has nowhere to turn. Your support is making a difference. So put your best paw forward and come join our cause to save animals in our community!

In late fall we received a phone call regarding two cats who needed to be surrendered. Their owner had passed away unexpectedly. Two of our volunteers traveled to the home and met two very distraught young men waiting outside for our arrival. These two heartbroken gentlemen, who were the sons of the deceased, brought these two beautiful cats out and handed them over with tears in their eyes and unable to speak. As our volunteers were walking to the their car with Orion and Orianna the husband arrived with his daughter. “There were a total of 4 cats”, stated the daughter. She was taking two of the cats home to live with her but could not afford the additional two. The husband said, “These cats have been with my wife since since they were 10 weeks old. She cared for them like they were her children.” He stood in the driveway and sobbed while telling us about their life together. He asked that these two darlings be kept together when they were adopted. We made that promise.

We are excited to say that after 5 months in foster care, Orion and Orianna were adopted together! We were able to keep our promise to this dear family because of you!

“Your support is helping us”

Why Sponsor?

Journey’s Story Journey was a beautiful 8 year old German Shepherd who had been surrendered to our local animal shelter. She was very pregnant and we were able to pull her from the shelter and place her in a foster home to deliver her babies. She was a great mom and was a very experienced mother. As soon as her babies were old enough to be weaned, she was placed in a new foster home. Where her foster mom said, “I think she sighed with relief when we told her she would never have to do this again.” When she arrived at her new foster home, it became very obvious she had been used for breeding only. Her foster mom would take her outside and she was afraid of the grass. Our team began researching and discovered this is a common problem with dogs used only for breeding. Instructions were given to her foster parents to allow her to bond with one of the resident dogs and she did. Within one week she was house trained. Soon she was adopted by a wonderful family and not only has a home in East Tennessee she has a winter home in St. Augustine, Florida.

Teddy’s Story Teddy was adopted by a wonderful couple when he was just 10 weeks old.

They loved him dearly and he was their baby for 12 years. His owners were older and his dad began having serious health issues and his mom

was having a hard time remembering things. It became difficult for her to care for both Teddy and her husband. It wasn’t their fault they had to give up their little boy. They did the best they could and wanted the best for

their little boy. Teddy arrived and was very distraught at his foster mom’s house. He would wander from window to window and room to room with

sadness in his little eyes. Eventually he began to settle in and relax. He loved laying in his foster moms lap. After 6 months in foster

care, Teddy was adopted by the perfect family.
