A Letter from the President

It's hard to believe that we are already closing in on the endof February! They say time flies when you're having fun, I personallythink it flies whenthere is important work to be done.

Every day here at Brevard Schools Foundation, our dedicatedteam plays asignificant role ensuring that our missionof enhancing education andinvesting in young minds is a success, butwe are never alone in that task. Many individuals here at thedistrict office and throughout our schools, aswell as community members helpedput on the 6th Annual ABC Awards,a truly red carpet affair for themore than 350 deserving honorees.

Dozens of employers turned out in early February for aninformationalcareer expo so our Take Stock in Children students could learnaboutpotential pathways to career and college success.

The next few months bring even more opportunities to do greatthings for kids. We’re getting ready to celebrateour $1,000,000 schoolsupplies giveaway at our Supply Zone for Teachers, as well as plan our annualSunsetMoonlight & Music benefit on April 28, to help us achieve the nextmillion in free supplies!

2017 ABC Awards Create MagicalMoments

Magic was in the air at the Harry Potterthemed 2017ABC Awards. The stage was set for an incredibleeveningto recognize all of the honorees for BrevardPublic Schools. Among the highlights ofthe event were the special guest appearancesfeaturing Dr. Desmond Blackburn, and members ofthe Brevard County School Board.

The talented culinary programs from BaysideHigh,Melbourne High, Titusville High, Cocoa High, andPalm Bay High providedanunforgettable experience. The exquisitepresentation, anddeliciously delightful variety ofcuisine options were the talk ofthe reception.

Rousingentertainment interludes dazzled theaudience and added to the excitementof the evening. The anticipation was palpable as the finalists ineachcategory took the stage and the winnerswere revealed.

TSIC Brevard Career Expo, a Huge SuccessThe Take Stock in Children Career Expo held February 4th engaged a near-capacity crowd. With specialguests Michael Cadore, local community leader, and William Capote, Mayor of Palm Bay, the studentsattending the TSIC Career Expo were treated to a memorable experience.

"The TSIC Career Expo was an incredibleexperience as it brought together young minds andpassionate professionals to create greater awarenessof career paths and employment opportunities. Inorder to adequately prepare the workforce oftomorrow, you have to begin investing in studentstoday, and that's what TSIC children is doing," saidAustin Jordan of the Center for the Advancement ofScience in Space (CASIS).

"My favorite part of this event was having so manystudents come to me and tell me how many ideasthey have for their future now. That is exactly whatwe are hoping to create by having events like this"said Marlene Mraz, TSIC Brevard Program Director.

Students were able to learn about various careerpaths through interactive presentations.

Students had fun learning about careers throughhands-on activities and getting to speak withprofessionals from several industries.

The Countdown is On at the Supply Zone for Teachers for the MillionthDollar Given Away...

The Supply Zone held a soft opening in May 2014 as a previewfor teachers throughout the school district. 218teachers received suppliesworth a total of $29,179.30 at retail value.

The store officially opened in August 2014 for the 2014/15school year. At that time, we were only serving 16schools, all of which had 70%or more of their students enrolled in the Free or Reduced Lunch Program.Weadded two schools in Spring 2015, and another four schools in Fall 2016. We arenow serving 22 schoolswith our goal being to continually increase the number of schools we serve.

By the Numbers:

2014/15 school year Served 1,004 shoppers Distributed $240,553.50 worth of school supplies

2015/16 school year Served 1,039 shoppers Distributed $406,488 worthof school supplies

2016/17 (to date) Served 710 shoppers Distributed $273,976.25 worth of school supplies

We are currently less than $50,000 away from hitting our $1,000,000mark in retail value of items givenaway. We have nine more weeks of regular shops this semester, so the excitement is definitely building.

Brevard Schools Foundation Ranksin Nation's Top 10 for 2ndConsecutive Year

Stepping Up is the nation's only annual study andranking of K-12 education foundations in the UnitedStates. The study ranks the top 50 education.

For the 2nd consecutive year, the Brevard SchoolsFoundation was ranked in the Top Ten nationaleducation foundations in Division 1 (foundationswith $2 million or more in revenues).

Stepping Up uses eight performance categories torank the foundations nationally and in each division.The eight performance categories address four of themost important issues to K-12 foundations:�

Resources to enhance public education(annual revenues, revenues per student)�Long-term financial sustainability (totalassets, assets per student, investmentincome)�

Resources invested into programs (totalgrants, programs and similar amounts paidand per student – both less salaries andbenefits)�

Human capital (volunteers)
