    Foundation Focus

    While the University receives funding from both the Commonwealth and Northern Territory Governments for essential recurrent and capital costs, the Foundation was established to generate the extra funds needed for investment in a wide variety of programs, projects and infrastructure. Donations from individuals and organisations support, for example:

    • Scholarships and Prizes

    • Research Fellowships

    • Teaching and Learning Resources, including the Library

    • University Art Collection

    The Foundation has adopted some of the key projects that are priorities for the University, and is helping to fund raise for them.  Major projects include:

    • Redevelopment of the University Theatre;

    • Indonesian Garden Project;

    •  New entrance for Casuarina Campus;

    • University Art Collection.

    University Theatre Redevelopment

    For over thirty years, the University Theatre has played a vital role in providing facilities for the amateur and professional artists that have taken the performing arts in the Northern Territory to greater heights; this has enabled students of all ages to interact with artists and performers from around the world.

    Apart from housing University music activities including the Centre for Youth Music, this building is the home of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra. It is also frequently used by other musical and artistic groups, including the Darwin International Guitar Festival.

    The time has come for the Theatre to undergo a major renovation program to create a vibrant and contemporary PerformingArts Facility.

    The renovation program, subject to funding, could include:

    •  Entrance and foyer redevelopment

    •  Theatre stage, wings, backstage facilities

    • Changing rooms and preparation areas

    • Improved lighting and sound

    • Improved acoustics

    •  Seating to accommodate 250/300 people

    • Increased storage facilities

    The Indonesian Garden Project

    This project aims to create a distinctive educational, cultural and recreational resource, for use by both the University and the wider community.

    Located behind the Music Building on the Casuarina Campus, the tropical Indonesian Garden will have as its centrepiece a Pendopo - a statuesque and striking Javanese wooden pavilion.  The Pendopo will be surrounded by shady tropical trees, water features and traditional carved stone statues representing the rich and diverse cultures of Indonesia.
