religionwhichheisinneedof,AllahshallresurrecthimontheDayofJudgmentasascholarwithadeepinsightintothefaith.”n following theabovehadith,The IslamicEducationBoardofTheWorldFederationofKSIMC
(IEB - WF) has decided to publish a series of booklets of 40 ahadith on different subjects. Theahadith,whichhavebeenselectedfromvarioussources,areshortandsimpleandthereforeeasytounderstand and memorize. It is envisaged that the booklets will not only be useful for Zakireen,Madrasahteachersandstudents,butwillbeofbenefittotheUmmahatlarge.Thecollectionoftheahadith,togetherwiththeirtranslationinEnglish,wascarriedoutbyShaykh

2ChapterIntroduction
AlthoughourexistenceisfromAllah(GloryandGreatnessbetoHim),itisourparentswhoare
themeansofgivinguslife.Weareanoffshootoftheirexistenceandafruitofthegardenoftheirunparalleledaffection,training,loveandsentiments.When the forgetful human being grows up to become big and strong and comes to acquire a
certain credibility (in life), he forgets theperiodwhereinhewasweak and lacking in strength.Hedisregardstheexhaustiveeffortsofhisparents;whatingratitudecouldbeworsethanthis?Humanity and ethics demand that we safeguard these two jewels (our mother and father) - by
exhibiting goodness towards them while they are alive, and by means of charity and goodlyremembranceaftertheirdeath.Our livesareanextensionofourparent‟s liveswhileourchildren‟s livesareacontinuationof
ours. Our good behavior towards our parents and our exhibition of kindness towards them shallcauseourchildrentogrowupasgratefulandrighteousindividuals.Theyshallbehavewithusjustaswehavebehavedwithourownparents.JustasitisbeyondourmeanstofulfilltherightsofAllah(GloryandGreatnessbetoHim)andto
thankHimforallHisbountiesintheirentirety,similarlywecanneverthankourparentssufficientlyfortheirefforts.Theonlythingthatwecandoistoacknowledgeourinabilityandsubmitourselves,in humility and reverence, before these two angels.However, comprehension of their status in theeyesofAllah(GloryandGreatnessbetoHim)pavesthewaytofulfillsomeoftheirnumerousrights.Thetraditionsthatweshallreadinthiscollectionoffortytraditionsshallservetomakeusaware
ofsomeofourresponsibilitiestowardsourparents.MayAllah (Glory andGreatness be toHim) grant us theDivine success that wemay come be
regardedamongstthosewhohavebeengoodtowardstheirparents.“O‟Allah!Makeussuchthatwemaybegratefulfortheeffortsofourparents.”“O‟Allah!Makeussuccessfulinbringingforthagenerationofpure-hearted,believing,grateful
andrighteousindividuals.”
3ChapterTreatmentofParentsaccordingtotheNobleQur’an
“AndyourLordhascommanded that you shallnot serve (any)butHim,and that you shall show
goodnesstoyourparents.Ifeitherorbothofthemreacholdagewithyou,saynottothem(somuchas)“Ugh”norchidethem,andspeaktothemagenerousword.

1-TheGreatestObligatoryAct
TheCommanderoftheFaithful(peacebeuponhim)hassaid:“Goodnesstowards(one‟s)parents
isthegreatestobligatoryact.

goodnesstowardsparentsandJihadinthewayofAllah.

3-AttachmenttoParents[ApersononceapproachedtheMessengerofAllah(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)andsaid:“I
haveanoldfatherandmother,whoduetotheirattachmenttowardsme,arenotkeenformetogotoJihad.”][Hearing this], theNobleProphet (peacebe uponhimandhis family) said: “(If such is the case
then)Staywithyourparentsfor,bytheOneinwhosecontrol liesmysoul, theirattachmentofonedayandonenighttoyouisbetterthanoneyearofJihad.”

4-TheMostBelovedDeedIbne `Abbas states:] “I questioned theMessenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family):
WhichdeedisthemostbelovedintheeyesofAllah,theMighty,theGlorious?”He(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)replied:“(Offering)prayersattheirstipulatedtimes.”Ithenasked:“Whichisthenext most beloved deed?” He (peace be upon him and his family) answered: “Goodness towards(one‟s)parents.” Iaskedhimagain:“After thiswhich is themostbelovedact?”He(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)said:“JihadinthewayofAllah.”

TheMessengerofAllah(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)said:“Everyrighteouschildwhocastsa look of mercy and affection upon his parents shall be granted, for every look of his, rewardsequivalenttothatofanacceptedHajj.”ThosearoundtheProphetquestioned:“O‟ProphetofAllah!Evenifheweretolookatthemahundredtimesaday?”TheMessengerofAllah(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)replied:“Indeed!AllahistheGreatestandMostKind."

6-TheGreatRankofParentsImamal-Ridha (peacebeuponhim)has said: “Allah, theMighty, theGlorious, has commanded
three thingswithwhichhehas associated threeother things.Heassociatedpaymentof zakat alongwith prayers such that one who offers prayers, but desists from offering zakat, his prayers arerejected.HeassociatedgratitudetoHimwithgratitudetowardsparentssuchthatonewhoisgratefulto Allah, but ungrateful to his parents, will be deemed as ungrateful to Allah. He associatedrighteousnesswithbondsofkinshipsuchthatonewhoisrighteous,buthasseveredrelationswithhiskin,willbedeemedasnotbeingrighteous.”

7-KindnesstoParentsImamas-Sadiq(peacebeuponhim)hassaid:“Goodnesstowardstheparentsisanindicationofa
person‟sexcellent cognizanceofAllah.This isbecause there isnoworship that can takeapersontowardsthehappinessofAllahfasterthanexhibitingrespecttowardshisMuslimparentsforthesakeofAllah.”

(peacebeuponhimandhisfamily)andasked:“O‟ProphetofAllah!TowardswhomshouldIexhibitgoodnessandkindness?”TheNobleProphetreplied:“Towardsyourmother.”Themanthenasked:“Andafterthattowardswhom?”TheNobleProphetagainsaid:“YourMother.”Heaskedagain:“Andthen?”Onceagain,hereplied:“Yourmother.”Forthefourthtimethemanasked:“Andthen?”Thistimehesaid:“(Thentowards)Yourfather.”

hisfamily)approachedayouthwhowasonthevergeofdying,andsaidtohim:“Say„ThereisnoGod exceptAllah.‟But the youth‟s tongue appeared to be tied and hewas unable utter thewords.Whenthistookplaceseveraltimes,theProphetsaidtoaladystandingneartheyouth‟shead:“Doesthisyouthhaveamother?”Theladyreplied:“Yes,Iamhismother.”TheProphetaskedher:“Areyouangrywithhim?”Sheconfessed:“Yes.Ihavenotspokentohimforthelastsixyears.”Hearingthis,he said toher: “Bepleasedwithhim.”Sheagreedandsaid:“O‟ProphetofAllah!For the sakeofyourpleasure,mayAllahbepleasedwithhim.”(Then,turningtotheyouth)hesaid:“Say„ThereisnoGod,exceptAllah‟).(Thistime)theyouthwasabletorecitethewordsandshortlyafterwards,hissouldepartedhisbody.”
