Fort Campbell Community Strengths and Themes Assessment 2014 (completed every two years)The review of community needs assists the identification of priorities for the Community Health Promotion Council. The results of the CSTA are briefed at the CHPC meeting and are included in the CHPC strategic plan. Additionally, these results help guide working groups in the development of action plans.

Specifically, with the 2014 CSTA results:Additional emphasis was placed on preventing alcohol and drug abuse by changing the hours alcohol is sold on post, increasing DUI checks, and command emphasis on random drug testing

The Spiritual Fitness Inventory was conducted this summer in an effort to develop a base line of spiritual fitness and help guide the working groups efforts

The Army Wellness Center building was identified and is in the implementation process

The Physical WG focused efforts on nutrition including positive changes to the dining facility, cooking classes for single soldiers, and scheduling the Military Nutrition Environment Assessment Tool to be accomplished in FY16.

Programs and Services are highlighted in multiple forums, marketed consistently, and encouraged by command.

Fort Campbell, KentuckyFort Campbell, KentuckyMike GorhamOutdoor Recreation Director(270) 798-4630Hunting SafetyFort Campbell, KentuckyFort Campbell, KentuckyAttention Hunters!Hunting season is quickly approaching, in some cases it may already be here. Lets go over some helpful safety rules.

Fort Campbell, KentuckyFort Campbell, KentuckyNever take a hasty shot - Be sure of your target and what is beyond itNever allow debris to collect in the barrel of your weapon (could damage the barrel and cause serious injury).Positively identify your target! Dont fire at a movement, a noise, a flash of color or into a rustling bush.Always let someone know where you will be hunting and when you intend on returning.Ensure you have water and food. Even for day trips.

HUNTING SAFETY

Fort Campbell, KentuckyFort Campbell, KentuckyDress in layers for warmth and watch local weather reports for the days you will be hunting.Dress to be seen by other hunters (i.e. bright orange hat and vest). Never attempt to cross a fence, ditch or other obstacle while holding a weapon with a chambered round. If you bump or drop it could discharge! Always treat your weapon as if it were loaded. Check your local laws to see if a hunters safety course is required.

Fort Campbell, KentuckyFort Campbell, KentuckyThere is a Hunter's Education and Safety Class being offered at the Smokehaus at Sportsman's Lodge on 5 September. This will allow hunters to obtain their Hunter's Education Certification which is required to hunt on any military installation. The class starts at 0700 and ends at 1600. The course will include classwork and live fire portion of the course at the skeet range. There is no cost for the course, but pre-registration is required.
