It's nice to know about your interest in Concrete Formwork 'Design and Detailing', because it 's a

neglected area since past many years. I am always keen to adress on "formwork' apart from other

aspects of Structural Engineering, which I know.

I my past a few post I have adressed the 'Design' and 'Detailing' aspects of the Formwork. I once

again state here that in formwork just Design and Detailing do not determine the success of theFormwork / Staging . . . but the 'Over all Planning' leads to the final success. Many times theplanners go by the 'Initial Cost' of the Formwork and finally land-up with troubles and blames

the 'Designer' for the out come.

Anyway, now let's concentrate on the answer to your Question, on drawing practices for the

    formwork / staging.

Please keep in mind the following points while generating / finalising the Formwork drawings :-

    1) Always prepare a GAD (General Arrangement Drawing) for any Scheme of Formwork,

    showing the following points :-

Locaton sketch / kEY plan of the plant, indicating the unit to be cast Clear dimensions of the Concrete unit to be cast in one go. Number of pour in the unit to be Cast (viz. Two pour / Three pours / single pours etc.) Concrete Pouring Rate Design Pressue considered in Formwork Design Arrangement proposed in Plan, Section, Elevation Reference drawings used Notes on concrting / safety measures List of Components used & Tentative BOQ

    2) Panel Mark-up plans

The panel mark-up plans are generated to show the 'Names' of form-panels, to be used atvarious locations

In these drawings a size and numbers of panels shall be shown in tabular form

    3) Detailed Drawings

Detailed drawings Include the 'Fabricaton' details of the Form-Panels, shown in mark-upplans

Also the fabrication drawings of other components / footings / grillages etc are to beshown in separate drawings

Show the connection details / clampings / brackets / access platforms etc. separately Formwork also demands lot of details of - 'Mechanised Units' / 'Swivel Action' etc.

experts can help you to show the same.

Apart from my other works, I have been delivering Training on Formwork since more than pastfive years. But I find every session is so Live, and New. Based on this I would once again say

that 'Well Planned' and 'Detailed to match this Planning' - is a formwork which surely will lead

    to success !!

You may log on to the Web-sites of various formwork manufacturers to get more information
