  • Forming a Leader From a FollowerBy: Nathan NicelyBased out of Spiritual Leadership by J. Oswald Sanders

  • There is a leader in everyone but that leadership ability needs to be found and brought to its full potential

  • Some leadership abilities that can be looked for: Do they have self control, think independently and handle criticism well?Do they turn disappointment into creative new opportunites? Are they a peace maker? Are they trustworthy? Can they get others to do something happily that otherwise would not be?Can they accept opposition to their viewpoint without taking offence?

  • Some leadership abilities that can be looked for (cont.)At ease in the presence of strangers?Interested in people?Have they ever broken a habit?Tactful?Have a strong/ steady will? (leaders cannot drift with the wind)Optimistic?Easily forgive?Feel a passion about any one particular thing? If they do this would be a great place to put them. The singleness of the motivation will focus the goal of the task.Welcome responsibility?

  • When handling relationshipsDo they work well with people? Do they criticize or encourage? Do they push away, or confront someone they have a problem with?Do they direct people or develop people? Do others failures annoy or challenge them?

  • Desirable qualities were present in all their fullness in Jesus and each Christian should make it his constant prayer that they might more rapidly be incorporated into His own personality. - J. Oswald Sanders

  • Things that must go for a leader:NegativityOver sensitive to criticismRush to defend themselvesMake excuses for failuresIntolerantInflexible

  • An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher, not addicted to wine, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy one who manages his own household competently, having his children under control with all dignity (if anyone does not know how to manage his own household how will he take care of Gods church?) He must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and fall into the condemnation of he devil. Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the Devils trap. 1 Timothy 3:2-7 Holman Christian Standard Bible

  • I cant, He can, He never said that I could but He promised that He would. - Doyle Chauncey, former president of the SBCV
