FORMBY Vikings Junior Colts played their second game of the season against Kendall RUFC on Sunday at home. After their árst game ended in a narrow defeat against league leaders Tarleton, the Vikings were determined to demonstrate they have the hunger and skills to compete as league contenders. Kendall were equally determined and in the árst áve minutes continuously attacked the Vikings in their own half, and after three phases of play Kendall’s scrum half picked up the ball from the base of a ruck, off loaded it to their ây-half, who crashed into two Viking defenders, popped it to their centre who went over for a try under the posts. The conversion attempt was missed and the visitors were leading 0-5. For the next ten minutes the Vikings threw their bodies on the line and defended against waves of Kendal attacks. Physically the Vikings’ pack kept the ball tight in four, áve, six phases of play. The Vikings reached the opposition 22 and a great break from the back of a maul saw Anthony Santos go over for an unconverted try just before half time. The game continued in a physically hard game with great defence from both sides, however Kendall began arguing amongst themselves and the Vikings were going from strength to strength and there was a feeling that victory was in their grasp. The pack continued with tight play and the tackling from 1 to 15 was awesome. A carbon copy of Santos’ árst half try saw him go over again to take the lead 10-5. The next ten minutes saw some frantic play from both sides, however the ánal score was 10-5. With the league due to be split, this has put us in a good position for the remainder of the season.
