Formative SummativeFormative assessment can also act as a summative assessment in a certain way; Tutorial tasks (formative assessment) can be graded. The accumulated marks (from the tutorial tasks) can be used to determine the final grade. The tutorial tasks are given feedback and ways on how to improve it. Term papers (drafts submitted throughout the semester would be a formative assessment) Projects (project phases submitted at various completion points could be formatively assessed) Portfolios (could also be assessed during its development as a formative assessment)

Summative FormativeThe outcome of a summative assessment can be used formatively, however, when students or faculty take the results and use them to guide their efforts and activities in subsequent courses.Eg: Ahmad gets a band 3 in his MUET. From that grade, he knows that he has to improve his speaking skills in terms of vocabulary expanse and fluency, as a band 3 reflects lack of these two aspects.
