How can educators use the

considerable metadata, and scoring rubrics are provided for
constructed response items and writing prompts.

items do not have to spend valuable time developing their own
items, so they can focus on student success.
Flexibility The Item Bank allows for the creation of custom
assessments to fit specific needs at any time during the school
year by those closest to the instruction. In addition, educators
can modify items to better reflect instruction, to accommodate
the student population, or to use on alternate assessments.
Dynamic Certica continues to grow, improve, and refresh
the Item Bank to stay current with the changing needs of
educators. In addition to content and item maintenance,
development plans typically include new items across the
content areas, new interactive item types, and new and/or
updated item alignments.

Spanish Translated Items To help support the unique needs of English language learners
(ELLs), the Formative Assessment Item Bank includes Math,
Science, and English Language Arts (ELA) items that have been
translated into Spanish. These items, which are translated from
existing English content, including over 10,800 items aligned to
TEKS and more than 200 passages.
Some Spanish items in the Item Bank are not directly
translated, but transadapted. Transadapted items have been
modified slightly to account for linguistic and cultural
differences, and to retain the integrity of the item content in the
translation.
In order to provide increased flexibility for educators and further
available content to ELL students, Certica allows educators
licensing the Item Bank the right to translate/ transadapt items
into Spanish for their own formative assessment purposes, with
the exception of third‐party, copyrighted reading passages.
Each item is identified with metadata, including Webb’s Depth of Knowledge and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. The Item Bank contains a variety of items at each cognitive level to allow educators to assess a wide range of student abilities.
