DETERMINATION OF HEAVY METALS (CADMIUM AND LEAD) IN BEAUTY

PRODUCTS (FOUNDATION) MANUFACTURED AT DIFFERENT COUNTRY

SYNOPSIS Beauty product is defined as a substance or preparation to be used on the exterior of the woman body such

as skin ,hair ,nails ,lips ,teeth and mouth for the purpose of cleansing, scent, skin beautification, body

odors, protect or care for the themselves so that they remain in good condition and beautiful. Now days,

beauty product were taken without any precaution or warn about the exposure of heavy metals to human

health. This study is about the determination of heavy metals in beauty product manufactured at different

country (Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan). 9 total samples of liquid foundation manufacture by 3 different

countries (Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan) where randomly choose at local supermarket. Each of samples

was digested using acid digestion method (HNO3 and H2O2) and was analyzed using ICP-MS to

determine the presence of heavy metals aluminium and zinc and its concentration. The highest reading of

the heavy metals is aluminium, 25.32 mg/l found in the sample of I-1. From this study, 9 samples of

foundation presence in aluminium and zinc with different concentrations. Heavy metals are the compound

that wills effects the human health. Therefore, beauty products used every day add up to significant

exposure of heavy metals in body.
