The first paragraph clearly explains the purpose for writing which is to

thank those at the workplace for letting you spend a semester with them.

Example…. I am writing to thank you for letting me discover your

workplace and a career in…

The second paragraph should highlight some of the opportunities and

learning you experienced while there. For example; things you enjoyed,

new information gained, new skills practiced, new understanding about

that type of work, equipment you got to operate, etc,

The closing paragraph should have once again thank those involved and

indicate how the experience benefited your personal career decision

making and development.

Writing A Thank You Letter For Your Supervisor

Helpful Hints:

1. The thank you letter is addressed to the person who was your Co-op supervisor. This person will be sharing your letter with his/her employer and posting it at the workplace so you want it to be your best.

2. The letter should be personal and neatly typed. It must be free of

errors and follow an organized format as given on the back of this page. Once you have written a rough draft, have someone with good spelling and grammar skills check it over for you. Put your final copy in good paper (not lined) and hand it to your Co-op teacher. This letter will be mailed today.

3. Are you having trouble deciding what to write? Why not use some of

these starter sentences? I appreciated the opportunity to work

with… I particularly enjoyed…. I never realized… This valuable

work experience will help me… As a result of this experience, I

will be… I learned that… During my tine spent with you I felt… My

favourite part of the placement was… I will always remember… I

appreciate the chance you gave me to do my work experience

placement with you. Thank you for giving me the chance to do my

work experience placement with you. I have learned a lot about

the world of work during my time at… You have helped me learn

about work and what it takes to keep a job. Thank you for your

efforts to help me.
