Formal Place Setting The way forks, knives, spoons, glasses, and cups are placed on the table is called a “table seng”. The one shown here is a “formal” place seng. We naturally don’t use all of this each day at home, however, it shows us where each piece is placed, whether we have eight pieces of silver or three. We use the silver from the outside in. For example, the soup spoon on the right would be used before the teaspoon, because soup is served first.
