LOTS OF SUMMER OFFERINGS... in this issue of ForkKnifeSpoon as we gear up for what will hopefully be a summer full of sunshine. With ice-cream being a seasonal staple, we look at the varieties of cones, wafers and waffles we can offer you to accompany ice cream and sorbet desserts for your menus. Antipasti is also a favourite when the weather is warm. From cured meats and Italian cheeses to olive oils, vinegar and tapenades, we have an extensive amount of products that we know your customers will just love.On the British cheese front, we look at two offerings from Mrs Bourne’s. Award winning traditionally made Cheshire cheeses that are a worthy inclusion on any cheese board.Last but not least, it is the time of year when local Kentish fruit is in abundance and this year’s selection is looking like some of the best yet.

Made to a traditional Cajun recipe, this hot sauce uses Cayenne peppers and spices to give a smooth, tangy taste and a fiery kick. Great on meat, chicken and fish or added to soups, pasta sauces or even cocktails.

A traditional Greek appetiser of roasted aubergine in a rich tomato sauce, flavoured with onions, garlic, herbs and spices. Suitable for vegetarians.

90mm, 8oz (260ml) disposable white paper cups with good thermal properties making them perfect for hot or cold products. Completely compostable due to their cornstarch lining. Lids sold separately, choose flat lids for soups or dome lids for ice creams, salads or fruit.

Still using baking techniques used by their founder Joseph Walker over 100 years ago, this stem ginger shortbread has the right blend of sugar and spice.

A traditional Caribbean preserve made from Guava. Grown extensively in Jamaica this succulent fruit has a strong aromatic flavour and is an interesting alternative to add to toast, crackers or try adding a spoonful to dishes to impart a touch of the exotic.

Traditionally the way to begin a meal in Italy, in the UK antipasti has become synonymous with a more relaxed, approachable way of eating. Here is a taste of what we can offer you if you are thinking of embracing this versatile and much-loved style of eating.

Cheese with Identity...

Sue Cole and Hayley Bryant work in our credit control department, Sue for nearly four years and Hayley for two. In her spare time Sue loves shopping with her two daughters Karina and Natasha, walking along the beach near to where she lives, the odd spot of gardening and going to the pub with her friends. Spiders and emptying the dishwasher on the other-hand are things that she could easily live without.Hayley loves going to the gym and walking her FIVE dogs...In case they ever run away, it is lucky that she previously represented Great Britain in the 100m, 200m and 400m and is also a qualified personal trainer. Both ladies have a taste for exotic destinations and enjoy sunning themselves on the beach as they list Turkey and the Maldives as their last holiday destinations.

INTRODUCING...SUE & HAYLEY

Perfect Meal? SUE: “I’m a bit of a fussy eater, but I love seafood and salmon is my favourite. For dessert I would be happy with a chocolate bar and a large glass of Disaronno”

HAYLEY: “Garlic King Prawns to start, followed by minted lamb.”

Kent really is the Garden of England and the summer months show this off better than any other. As the weather gets warmer and the sun shines brightly the fruit season begins and allows us to enjoy an abundance of delicious offerings. We are always happy to be able to offer our customers great local produce and we believe that we have some of the world’s best and there is no better time than now to give them a try.

The Bourne family has been hand-making fine Cheshire cheese since 1930. Unlike many other cheese makers who use industrial production methods, they still use traditional ‘hands on’ techniques to produce their award winning cheeses.

Mrs Bourne’s Raw milk Cheshire

a handmade cheese that carries all the hallmarks of a traditional Cheshire. The salts deep in the

Cheshire plains lend their influence to the grass and thus the flavour of the cheese, and the result is a strong, bitey and

sharp taste. Texturally very moist, with a buttery mouth feel, this is as old school as it gets.

Mrs Bourne’s Blue CheshireA coloured variant of the pasteurised Cheshire, hand made by John Bourne, with a good, even showing of blue veins. The cheese has the sharpness expected of a Cheshire, however there is a fruity tang indicative of caramelised apricots in the middle of the palate. The blueing complements the already strong cheese without adding too much length.

Both our strawberries and raspberries come from Lower Ladysden Farm just round the corner from us here in Goudhurst. Both are of remarkable size and have a flavour that needs to be tried to be believed. The strawberries are of the Elsanta variety and are glossy and aromatic, whilst the raspberries are Glen Ample; a large, deep red, succulent variety.

Our Gooseberries come from Maynards Farm in Ticehurst and are of the green Invicta variety, which are great for cooking with as they hold their shape well.

Our large heart-shaped cherries, from Aragon Farm near Sissinghurst, have a dark-red skin and golden-red flesh. They are sweet flavoured and perfect this time of year.
