Last year saw Robyn’s most successful release to date. The pop star with electro sensibilities launched Body Talk in three instalments, which placed her irrevocably in the worldwide music realm, with lead single ‘Dancing on My Own’ nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance Recording category. Agnes ObelAngelic pianist and songstress from Denmark

When this 29-year-old classically trained Dane started writing music for her debut album Philharmonics (2010), she had no clue it would be released to huge critical acclaim

and commercial success. Spending seven weeks at the top of the Danish music charts, it also earned her places in the top 10 in the Netherlands and France. Wherever the Berlin-based artist performs you’ll see audiences swoon to her soothing voice and nostalgic piano melodies, so it’s no surprise that her fanbase is rapidly expanding. Copenhagen-born Nanna Øland Fabricius (right) comes from an artistic family and used to be a ballerina. An injury led her to focus more on music and she wasted no time making her mark – debut album Fauna hit the US Billboard charts in 2008, and she even appeared on the Late Show with David

This Gothenburg band formed about a decade ago, with a certain José González in the ranks. Due to commitments with

his successful personal career, however, González only reunited with Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkorn last year to record the band’s long-overdue debut album, FIELDS. But it was worth the wait: percussion and vintage synth-textured melancholia, combined with González’s trademark voice, make for a celestial and gratifying experience. Style-conscious songstress Lykke Li (born Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson) needs little in the way of an introduction. With her 2008 debut Youth Novels and tracks ‘Little Bit’ and ‘I’m Good, I’m Gone’ she achieved considerable indie stardom, allowing her to tour the globe and play major festivals on both sides of the Atlantic. Three years on, Wounded Rhymes is a darker, more grown-up effort, claiming the credibility that her debut – labelled by some as ‘powdered-sugar pop’ – arguably lacked. Otherwise known as Joachim Dyrdahl, diskJokke is an integral part of the Norwegian underground music scene and closely connected to famous Oslo nightclub Sunkissed. His career kicked off when he came to the attention of leading local disco-scene figure Prins Thomas, who signed him to his label Full Pupp, with releases on renowned labels of the genre like M.A.N.D.Y, Get Physical and Moshi Moshi following soon afterwards. Since then, diskJokke has performed in Beijing, Brazil, Jakarta, Moscow, New York and Istanbul – as a DJ, or in laptop or live-band set-ups – and has done remixes for A-ha, Coldplay, The xx, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Crystal Castles.
