ForFarmer recognise this, and have developed a range of laying diets that will support laying birds whether they have been reared and conditioned to optimise egg number or egg weight. The specifications within this range of diets reflects the need for nutritional support of increasing persistency of egg production, and provides for tailored nutritional solutions to match the egg size profile that the producer selects. The Advance concept of nutrition at the onset of lay provides the required nutrient density to support significant bodyweight gain concurrent with the start of egg production, at a period in the bird’s life where she may experience difficulty in matching feed intake with her rapidly changing physiological state.

SUPREME ADVANCE PLUS is a nutrient dense diet which is designed to support body

growth through the onset of egg production, and is particularly appropriate to support those birds reared and conditioned to lay an enhanced egg weight profile.

SUPREME ADVANCE 248 is specifically formulated to meet the requirements of birds

which have been reared to optimise egg number. As the pullet approaches maturity, her rate of body growth declines, and so her nutrient requirement alters. This diet helps avoid any surplus nutrient supply which may result in egg size exceeding requirement, and potentially compromising persistency of lay. Once successfully established in lay, a programme can be tailored to support the egg mass output of the bird, to the preference of each producer. To support those birds conditioned to lay a larger egg.

SUPREME ENHANCE will be the diet of choice to follow ADVANCE PLUS in order to

establish and maintain enhanced egg size through the period of peak egg mass output.

SUPREME ORIGINAL and SUPREME SUSTAIN can then be introduced appropriate

to the bird’s condition, feed intake and productivity, delivering the required support for persistency of lay. For those flocks looking to optimise the number of eggs laid, SUPREME ORIGINAL and SUPREME SUSTAIN will be chosen to follow ADVANCE 248, in order that optimal rate of lay is achieved without any unnecessary enhancement of egg size. Typically fed from arrival onto the laying farm at around 16 weeks of age. For situations where birds have been reared and conditioned to optimise egg size, this diet will typically be fed until around 28 weeks of age, or until bodyweight gain and egg size have both reached the target set by the producer. For those flocks reared and conditioned to maximise the number of eggs laid, the diet may be fed from arrival onto the laying farm until around 24 weeks of age, or until the rate of bodyweight gain begins to decline. Consideration of a transition to the next diet would be appropriate should average egg size exceed 60g or daily feed consumption exceed 120g.

Typically fed from around 24 weeks of age, but can be fed to well grown pullets from arrival onto the laying farm, until around 28 weeks of age. The diet is specifically designed for flocks reared and conditioned to optimise the number of eggs laid. The nutrient specification helps ensure that the final stages of bodyweight gain are completed without delivering a surplus of nutrients which can escalate egg size. By controlling egg size, the bird is better able to maximise persistency of lay. Indicators other than bird age, that a diet transition is required, would include average egg size exceeding 62g or daily feed consumption exceeding 125g.

The diet will typically be fed from around 28 weeks until 42 weeks of age, depending on the bird condition, feed consumption and achievement of the required egg weight profile.

A robust, nutrient dense diet which can be fed from around 28 weeks of age for birds conditioned to optimise egg number output, or from around 42 weeks of age for birds which have been programmed to produce an enhanced egg weight profile. Where birds are conditioned to optimise egg number output, other than a typical age of around 40 weeks, a further indicator that a diet transition would be appropriate would be the achievement of a 63g average egg weight.

Recognising the potential for persistency of lay, whether birds have been conditioned to optimise egg number or egg size, this diet maintains the dietary energy content of the preceding rations, and embraces the nutritional strategies to help maintain egg shell quality through to the end of the production cycle. Where management strategies have aimed to optimise egg number output , this diet can typically be introduced from around 40 weeks of age, whereas for those birds conditioned to enhance egg size, the diet will typically be appropriate to feed from around 54 weeks of age.
