IN THIS ISSUE

Dear Readers,The age old question that employers ask their applicants is, “tell us about yourself?” but what they really mean is, “tell us why why you’re better than everyone else”. The problem with this question, is the answer. More often than not the answer consists of lies - applicants always tell you what you want to hear. The balance between being confident and over selling is often a line that is hard to walk. So in this special Forever New edition of my resume, instead of trying to tell you what makes me better - I will show you what makes me different. I’ve included examples of my work: a media release, feature articles, advertisements I have designed and of course, information on myself.

This edition will give you an insight into my personality, my skills and my mind. Hopefully I’ll show you why I deserve a place within your team!

Happy reading and I hope to hear from you soon!

My name is Mandalay and I am addicted to bubble tea.

The one thing I can’t leave the house without are My sunglasses and my favorite beauty product is my hourglass nude lipstick.

In a zombie apocalyse the two thing I would bring are my steve madden combat boots and mascara .

If I was to go on a holiday I would go to Greece and wouldn’t forget to bring a floppy hat .

The one thing I can’t live without is my cat and a TV show I am currently watching is orange is the new black .

Mandalay, why do you want to work for Forever New?I’ve always wanted to work in the fashion industry. I love that fashion lets you express yourself, everyone is differrent and fashion is a way to show the world who you are. I’m really creative, and combining something I am passionate about with work is almost like art- I want to be able to share that with everyone.

You currently live on the Gold Coast- what’s it like? The Gold Coast is so different to Melbourne! The way people treat fashion in both cities is 180 degrees apart. I love the Gold Coast but Melbourne is hands down my favorite city in Australia. I saw this position on LinkedIn and absolutely could not let the opportunity pass me by.

You’ve worked in a few different positions now, decribe one of them. One of my last communication roles was amazing, it really gave me the chance to explore my creativity and develop my writing skills. It was only when I felt like I had no more to learn in that role that I looked for

positions at other companies that would challenge me. I’ve also worked in retail for a few years and am constantly greatful for the people skills it has helped me develop.

What have you recently been working on? I’ve done a lot of writing and media work for a few different companies but I did receive a position in the entertainment industry where I was able to explore so many different skills that I hadn’t yet before. Sometimes I had to use my professional skills and contact different media channels and outlets, and other times I was able to be incredibility creative and organise competitions and design newsletters- it was so much fun!

Whats the most exciting thing you’ve done while in a job?I was recently responible for the communications of a local Film Festival and on Opening Night had to greet all the VIPs and coordinate the red carpet. I had a clipboard with a cheat sheet

that had everyone’s photo, name and title- it felt like I was in that scene from The Devil Wears Prada!

How do you deal with stressful or challenging situations?I keep my eye on the prize! If I’m committed to something it means I’m in it 100% and don’t let stressful situations deter me. Other than that I just do what everyone else does- drink lots of coffee and not sleep.

Paris Fashion Week gains public relations exposure through a string of celebrity appearances.

Musicians, socialites and models, such as Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Paul McCartney, flockedto France to watch 90fashion shows executed over 9 days.

International supermodel, Kate Moss marked her return to the runway, making asurprise appearance when she closed US designer Marc Jacob’s collection for Louis Vuitton.

Lindsey Green, Director of Communications at JillStuart, said fashion public relations is about gaining exposure for a line.

“Fashion Week is the best time to test your ability to handle the pressure, the hours and all the many

details that come with the job,” she said.

“It’s fast paced and you have to keep up. If you can cut it during fashion week, you can survive in the industry,” she said.

Fashion Week is the point where fashion and entertainment intersect and is an ideal setting for public relations practitioners to generate and direct

Paris Fashion Week Attracts the Beautiful & Stylishpublic attention.

Lindsay Green speculates that fashion is a competitive industry and is hard to control; job training andinternships are the best tools for learning the fashion business.

Kate Moss closing the show generated significant traffic and was a clear tribute to how important it is to continuously come up with ideas that will entertain and resonate with the publics.

Though Paris was the last stop in the Fashion Week itinerary, the front row and after party was lined with famous fashion fans whose names were not neglected by both media and paparazzi.

Riddled with misconceptions, fashion public relations is more than just the glamor people think.

Television shows, like ‘The Spin Doctors’, give those aspiring to enter the fashion world the wrong impressions.

Alison Lowe, the founder of boutique firm Felicities, said how important it is to get a taste of real agency life.

“I see a lot of students who say they want to get into fashion PR but have the perception that it is all about wild parties during fashion week,” she said.

“We often work back of house and it is hard work, so any glamour attached to it is a bonus,” she said.

Fashion public relations is a highly selective field of work to branch into, and as such a passion for fashion, and a love for the industry are essential attributes to possess.

“We work in a world with beautiful people and beautiful clothes, but at the end of the day we are there to represent the client” said Lowe.

Skills that are required in an individual wanting to work in the fashion PR industry include:

• Pay great attention to detail • Have the ability to gain exposure • Remain on track with the budget • Always maintain a good relationship with the client
