Winter Greetings!

Well, it may not officially be winter yet – but it sure looks and feels like it! We put the finishing touches on our beautiful outdoor play space, just as the snow started to fly!

It’s been a busy fall here at Forest Park, as you could probably tell from attending our students’ family conferences. It was great to see so many of you out discussing your child’s learning and celebrating all that they have done so far this year. Remember that conferences are just one opportunity to talk with us – feel free to contact your child’s teacher anytime to discuss their progress.

Another great way to see what’s happening in your child’s classroom is to follow them on Instagram. Several of our teachers regularly post pictures including rooms 1 (AM & PM), 3, 6, 7 & 8. And our school even has it’s own account: forest_park_school.

Finally I wanted to save some space here to say a huge farewell and thank you to Glenda Lepischak (“Mrs. L.”) who is retiring at the end of this month. She is a fabulous administrative assistant who has been making sure that everything runs smoothly for our entire staff here at Forest Park for the better part of five years. She is often the first person to greet everyone warmly each morning, and her love for all of the children is

obvious. We will miss her lots - but I have a feeling she’ll be back to visit us very soon. All the best Mrs. L.! ❤

Joining us in January as our new Administrative Assistant is Teresa Friesen, who you may remember did a term at Forest Park in the past. Welcome, Teresa!!

And Happy Holidays to you and yours! Please stay warm & healthy, Chris (AKA Ms. Chris) Wigglesworth

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER, TAKE CARE OF THIS PLACE

Winter 2018/19 Newsletter

We're very excited about our winter concert this year! All of our students will be performing at the

brand new Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre (SOPAC) at 711 Jefferson Avenue on Thursday, De-

cember 20th. There will be two performances - a matinee in the afternoon at 1:30 and an evening

performance at 6:30. We know how important it is for you to be there to see your kids shine on

stage so we're asking that you help us with making sure everything runs smoothly. Mr. Laidlaw will

be sending a note home (with more details about the evening) with your child soon.

Seating is limited in this venue (to about 500) and we cannot exceed the occupancy limit. Because of

this, (in November) we provided each of our families with two tickets to the 6:30 performance.

Please note; there are no more evening tickets available.

Students from Forest Park DO NOT need tickets as they won’t be sitting in the audience. *And you

DO NOT need tickets to attend the afternoon, matinee performance at 1:30.

YOU MUST BRING YOUR TICKETS TO SOPAC ON THE 20TH FOR THE EVENING SHOW -

ANYONE WHO FORGETS THEIR TICKET(S) WILL BE SEATED LAST (IF THERE IS ROOM)

PLEASE REMEMBER

To call the school at 204-338-9341 if

your child is going to be away from

school for any

reason.

We have an an-

swering machine,

so if you call be-

fore or after

hours, please

leave a message

with your child’s name, room num-

ber, teacher’s name and reason for

the absence. Thank you!

SCHOOL PARKING LOT

For the safety of the students at Forest

Park School, we are asking that parents

please do not use the staff parking lot to

drop off or pick up students.

Also, please be aware that you should

not be parking in the front school bus

loading zone ($70 fine!), the handi-

capped parking spot ($300

fine!) or passing a loading school bus

($700 fine!)

Thanks!!

At Forest Park School, we have students and staff with life-threatening allergies. We are a nut and fish aware

school. Please check snacks, lunches and baking to be certain that no nut or fish products are sent to school.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Medicines should never be

stored in a student’s back-

pack. Any medicines must be

kept in the office, recorded,

and distributed by the

principal or her designate.

It is very important that we

have updated contact

information for your child.

In emergent situations, it

is very important that we

are quickly able to contact

a parent or guardian.

If you have moved, had a change of

home or cell phone number or email

address, please update the information

in Parent Connect or let the school know

by email at [email protected] or

phone 204-338-9341.

IMPORTANT INFO

Community News

A reminder that our school

library has computers available

for use by the families of our

students. Please call the school

to make arrangements if you

would like to come in and use

one.

Breakfast Club

Our school Breakfast Club be-

gan on September 17. Break-

fast Club is open to all students

from 8:30 until 8:50 am each day and serves

students a small breakfast of healthy food so

that each student has the opportunity to

begin their school day with food in their

stomach. The Nutrition Council of Manitoba

supports our breakfast program

and we accept donations of fruit,

bread, jam and whole grain cere-

als that are low in sugar.

GOT MILK

Forest Park School offers a milk program which encourages students to develop the

healthy habit of drinking milk every day at school by making it fun and rewarding.

Everyone plays an important role in the School Milk Program. The school makes cold re-

freshing milk available to students, parents help their children purchase milk, and the stu-

dents drink milk and have a chance to win cool milk rewards.

Participate in the school milk program today – if you require further

information, call the office at 204-338-9341.

Milk cards can be purchased at the office - 20 cartons for $20.00 for

chocolate or white milk. Please send cash or a cheque payable to

Forest Park School. The milk coordinators will have your child’s milk

card hole punched when they pick up their milk. When your child is

running out of milk you will be notified.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers in our classrooms. If you are interested in volunteering at Forest Park School please contact Mrs. Berkowitz at [email protected].

I’m Dave Mathers, Community Coordinator at Forest Park Community School.

I have over 20 years of experience working with young children and their families, the past 16

about child development, behaviours, and activities they can do at home to help their children

grow to their fullest potential.

I’d like to take this opportunity to invite you and your preschool children to the programs listed above. For more information, you can call me at 204-338-9341 or email me [email protected]
