Bulls Steakhouse was established in 1991 as a casual family steakhouse with the main focus on personalized service and exceptional food. Owners Kevin Middleton and Jim Lemon insist on giving personal attention to every guest that walks in the door. Ten years ago Forest resident Nickie Gentry never thought she would eventually be opening a gift store. She had started making wreathes for friends and family, even hanging some of them at her husband’s dental office.

But when a space became available last May at the corner of Forest Rd. (Rt. 221) and Thomas Jefferson Rd. (Rt. 811) in the same building as Forest Family Dentistry, she decided to showcase her talent.

One thing led to another. The walls needed re-painting to better match the wreathes, and why not offer all-season gift baskets as well? For that matter, there really wasn’t a true gift store in

Forest featuring new items, so why not also offer home décor, ladies accessories, wine and tasting, micro beers and condiments?

So it happened, and Nickie is proud of the service she now offers to Forest area residents. Her goal is to produce that “wow” in the eyes of the gift receiver.

Popular items available at Divine Designs and Delights include Christmas home decorations along with her now famous wreathes, jewelry (including Re-Imagine Fashion), purses, custom gift baskets for any occasion, scarves, leg warmers and the unique and popular Lolita line of glassware. Free gift wrapping is available too.

The gourmet snacks, sauces and preserves are well suited for the Virginia-made wines and craft beers. To top things off, Nickie’s daughter Courtney, a senior at Lynchburg College, started her own cupcake and confection business that she plans to expand after graduation.

In the meantime, her treats, including cupcakes and cakes, are also available at Divine Designs and Delights, a store appropriately named.

Rob Wheeler, Ruthie Honig and staff offer specialized print services, pho-tography classes and studio space, unique camera supplies and accessories, and spe-cial lens and camera rentals.

Besides offering traditional roll and film printing twice weekly, in several sizes and finishes, Lynchburg Photoworks offers Restoration services, Archive quality large-format prints and Gallery Canvas Wraps.

They can recover and/or restore old images, and large format prints can be made up to 44” on the “short side” to essentially unlimited num-ber of inches on the long side.

A host of specialty products are also available, like custom cutting boards and mousepads. Different types of surfaces can be used to trans-fer images, including slate, canvas, pearl and metallic.

Educational options range from customized one-on-one classes to group classes, encompassing all levels of photographic experience. They even offer guided photo tours in the Lynchburg area, and are always available for recommendations.

Studio space is available for various backgrounds, such as for Christ-mas or passport photos. Are you planning to photograph a special event that would be enhanced with the use of a special lens? Instead of buying the lens, you can rent them here.

An academy of performing arts opened in Forest last January (‘14), in the Briarwood Business Center on Forest Rd. (Rt. 221).

Directed by well-known musician and former adjunct professor at Lib-erty University Luis Mendez, Stage221 specializes in dance, voice and instru-ment instruction for students of all ages and backgrounds. Several instructors are now teaching about 180 adults and grade school students, most from the nearest school districts of Lynchburg, Bedford County and Campbell County.

The staff at Stage221 is committed to providing the highest quality education possible, in a fun and friend-ly environment, and boast their own stage and theater for academic performances and the general public, which seats about 100. The theater is open to the public for “open mic” sessions every Thursday night from 7:30 pm. - 9 pm. ($3 at door). Recording and video studios are also available.

Dance instruction, especially in ballet and hiphop, is popular, and new classes, in several styles, form each week. Beginner Jazz is also available and popular.

Many voice students are given the opportu-nity to compete locally and regionally in styles ranging from classical to contemporary, both sacred and secular. All students are taught the basic of vocal technique and then instructed in the musical styles of their choosing such as Broadway, pop, musical theater, jazz and classical. Students range from 3 to 73.

Guitar students are trained in theory as well as technique in both classical and contemporary styles. Several times each year students can perform in a recital or concert. Some eventually move on to win scholarships for college.

Piano students are trained in the classics as well as contemporary styles such as jazz, contemporary praise, and country. Theory, chords and sight reading are emphasized. Once trained, students are invited to perform at many functions in the community such as choir ac-

Many local businesses have recently donated to FYAAand you can see their signs along the fences around the soc-cer fields, football field and on the Nissan lacrosse fields. What can a woman do when she has three children and notices that quality children’s clothing and maternity apparel are difficult to find around Lynchburg?

Forest resident Trina Smith took matters into her own hands and eventually opened The Baby Giraffe children’s boutique (last August), where she offers plenty of things she couldn’t find when she needed them.

“You might say I have an entrepreneurial spirit,” says Trina. “I really enjoy helping people find what they want. We take pride in our per-sonalized service...and we’ve been well received.”

Trina has a long history of helping the community in other ways, since she is also a registered nurse and has been a volunteer paramedic locally for decades. She acknowledges that none of her achievements

New Restaurant in Forest SquareDoug Roh and his son Travis own and operate a new res-

taurant that opened last June.Bräuburgers Craft Burgers & Beer is located where Lou-

ise’s used to be, in the Forest Square shopping center next to Kroger. Focusing on fresh beef and high quality ingredients, Bräuburgers offers a modern and casual atmosphere with flat-screen TVs and craft beers from nearby breweries on tap using an advanced draft system.

Besides their fresh Black-Angus Chuck Sirloin burgers, other favorites available include brats, franks, wings, BLTs, reuben sandwiches, grilled chicken sandwiches, and salads. For more information, see their ad on page 22.

Forest Gourmet Shop & Micro-Brewery Continue GrowthThe popular Apocalypse Ale Works and next door neighbor Pints of Plenty are both experiencing strong growth.

Pints of Plenty added Forest resident and former Kroger wine consultant and specialist Pegeen Griessmayer to the staff last March. Pegeen is the store wine buyer and offers wine tastings Tuesdays from 11am-3pm. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am.-5 pm.

Apocalypse Ale Works recently began canning their popu-lar Golden Censer and Hoppocalypse brands to be shipped to Krogers and high-end Apple Market stores around Virginia. Their products continue to win state, national and internation-al tasting contest awards.

Improvements have been made and upgraded equipment has been added to the brewery. The beer garden behind the brewery has been extended.

Despite the growth of Apocalypse Ale Works, proprietors Lee and Doug John are vowing to limit their operation so that their products stay in Virginia and they can maintain their Forest area roots.

Forest Farmers Market Plans For the Holidays & 2015

The final Holiday market will be Dec. 7 (one was already held Nov. 22) at the Forest Library, 15583 Forest Road, Forest Va. and will be from 8am to noon. The the following types of products will be available: Winter vegetables, which may include; greens, root vegetables, cold hearty produce along with beef, chicken, pork, lamb, duck, and bison, eggs (duck,

chicken, quail), fish, artisan breads, jams, jellies, honey, cheese, wine and a wide variety of artisan crafts. Winter markets will be held at the Forest Recreation Center, 1088 Rustic Village Road from 8am to noon. Many

of the same local products will be available to buy. Dates: Jan. 10, Feb. 21, March 14 and April 11.

The 2015 regular season starts the last weekend in April, back behind the Forest Library, from 8 am.-12 noon. Continuing in the 2015 season there will be a children’s program once a month. Additional special programs are being added. SNAP (formally known as food stamps) will also be accepted. There will be an incentive program for SNAP recipients. The average primary medical provider in the U.S. sees about 30 people daily. At Forest Direct Primary Care, the av-erage number of patients seen per day range from 3-6. There is much more time for Dr. Farrago to consult with his patients.

“We have shrugged off the bureaucracy,” says Farrago, “and shredded red tape. Traditionally, over 40 cents of every $1 you spend on healthcare goes toward insurance billing and over-head. That means most doctors must work harder and faster, seeing a high volume of patients each day to make ends meet.”

So health insurance is not accepted at Forest Direct Primary Care (FDPC), saving their patients from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that inevitably come with third-party payers. But they believe their patients should still have traditional insurance for se-rious illnesses and unanticipated events. A high deductible health plan i.e. bronze) can allow a patient to spend less but get more.

Monthly fees range from $75 for adult individuals to $125 for couples, and $150 for the whole family. The fees do not count toward medical insurance deductibles, but there are ways that patients can make their money back.

There are no co-pays and office fees, and labs in FDPC are about 80% less than most places around. Dr. Farrago is one of the few MDs in the country who performs Osteopathic Manip-ulation Treatment (OMT) back adjustments on a regular basis,

and has treated over 15,000 patients using this technique.FDPC can handle 90% of most medical problems for the

monthly fee, but Dr. Farrago can still refer you to the same specialist you may see now. People on Medicare still get the

same coverage. And special plans are available for college students and business employers.
