program overvIew

Our master’s program offers two tracks that give advanced academic preparation for students who would like to teach Foreign or Second Languages at home or abroad.

We offer a track that leads to initial certification in ESOL or Foreign language Teaching at the master’s level and a non-certification track that allows practicing teachers an opportunity to gain advanced professional development in Foreign and Second Language Teaching. Our students come from a wide range of academic backgrounds and often hold bachelor’s degrees in fields such as Foreign Language, English Literature, Communications, and International Affairs. Our foreign language certification track offers Florida Certification in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, and German.

Career opportunItIes

Students who graduate from our program have many opportunities to work as foreign or second language teachers in U.S. settings and teach English as a foreign language abroad. In addition, students are eligible for language specialist positions in government agencies. Many of our students work as language experts in international government or professional organizations. Students who complete our research track are competitive candidates for doctoral programs in Foreign Language Education or Second Language Acquisition.
