    REDEEMED, REMOVED & REDUCEDForeclosure Auction: The Original 211 Parcels Decreased to 159

    KINGSTON, NY (April 12, 2013) The list of foreclosed properties has been modestly reduced as propertyowners rush to redeem their parcels prior to the Annual Public Auction of County Lands to be held April 16,2013 at SUNY Ulster.

    Twenty-five percent of the original 211 properties up for auction, with unpaid taxes outstanding for three ormore years, have been paid, redeemed or removed by their owners. The updated list as of Friday consistsof 159 properties, ranging from a .08 acre parcel with a starting bid of $7,690 in the Village of Saugerties toa 58.9 acre parcel starting at $16,589 located in Lloyd.

    The Town of Saugerties continues to account for the largest number of unpaid parcels with 27. Eight (8)of the original thirty-five (35) have been redeemed. Trailing close behind is the Town of Ulster andWawarsing with twenty-two (22) and twenty (20) parcels respectively, after a combined eleven (11)properties were redeemed; 5 from Ulster, 6 from Wawarsing.

    The Town of Saugerties also remains tops on the list in total dollars of unpaid taxes with the remaining

    twenty-seven (27) properties accounting for $857,534. This includes one parcel whose taxes have beenunpaid since 1995, and represents $502,533. It is unknown if this property will ever sell because of theenvironmental issues associated with it, rendering it unsalable.

    Since the publication of the list in early April, one parcel has been deleted from the auction list in theVillage of Ellenville by the Environment Protection Agency due to continued remediation of the hazardoussite; two (2) properties starting auction values have been amended decreasing the starting bid value, andfifty-one (51) parcels have been redeemed totaling $1,118,269. As of April 12, 2013 the total unpaid taxestotal $2,468,960.

    The original 2013 auction list of 211 properties represented an 8% increase from 2012 although the total

    of unpaid taxes fell 7% below the 2012 number This year 18 of the 20 Towns and 2 of the 3 villageslocated in Ulster County will have properties up for auction.
