ELECTIONS

I know I seem to be harping on this, but it is now critical for Club members to stand up and to offer themselves for election to the position of a Director of the Club.

At least 4 of the current Directors (including myself) will not be standing for re-election.

The need is therefore urgent and very needed for Members to take up the challenge.  The Club must have a Board of Directors otherwise it does not continue.

If you have not already considered nominating for election, then please do so immediately.  The Club needs you.  There is no time to wait.

Do not think that you don’t have the skills or the ability.  Everyone has something to offer.  The best Board comprises a group of

individuals who have a wide range of skills and different abilities.  You can be a Director.

SPRING

“Spring has sprung”, as they say, and the warmth is starting to be noticed.

As a consequence, the growth around the course will create a huge amount of work for David Laurie and his very small team (two).

Accordingly, if you have the skills, time and you are able to volunteer to assist David with any of the tasks around the course then speak to David about how he could best use your skills.

FLOOD WATERS

The effect of the flood waters runs deep.  Greatest effect no doubt upon Andrew Grove and Rebecca at Groove Golf.

The effect upon the Club has also been enormous in that we have lost so much trading in both the Club and the flow-on effect in the Club because we could not have golf. Add to this the already effect upon trading of Covid-19. All of this makes it more difficult for the financial viability of a Club of our size.

Although I said previously I would not name people (as you would know who you were) I want to specifically thank Tony Boyd who provided a truck on site for a week to remove rubbish and damaged goods.  Not only was his truck but also his father Alan was available all of that week.  Thank you to both – much appreciated.

Those truckloads of rubbish had to go somewhere and of course that was the tip.   There would have been enormous tip fees.  Thanks to the quick thinking of Club Captain Greg Croker, who spoke with Mayor Bob Kirk. Tip fees were waived on this occasion.

Thank you all for the time and effort you put into helping clean up the Club.

COVID-19

The need still remains for everyone to be vigilant about assisting Carol, Mick and Shelley in adhering to the COVID guidelines to make sure that our Club is safe.  Under no circumstances can our Club afford any breaches and moreover we need to be safe for each other’s sake.  Please continue to co-operate and observe the rules as you have all been doing.

FROM THE MANAGER

Our manager, Carol, received a communication from Tony Bodel recently. He would like members to know just what he and Dawn are up to at the moment.

TALES OF ANOTHER HONEY BEEZ ADVENTURE

PART 1

We left Goulburn Sunday morning 2 August for Villa Provence, Coff’s Harbour. Monday was our first game of golf at Woolgoolga. Our first winner of the green jacket was Poley and Boots was the hat (worst score). The winner was a rest day, so we headed off to Bellingen and Dorrigo for a pleasant day. That night the cards came out and the usual happened – Boots and Riddles defeated Dawn and Ecka. On Wednesday we were off to Nambucca Heads. Queen Bee was the winner of the green jacket and the hat went to Ecka. John and Fay Hopkins helped us to celebrate. They passed on best wishes to everybody.

Thursday was another rest day with a bit of fishing, walks on the beach

and a game of golf on a Par 3 resort course.

On Friday we played golf at Sawtell and the winner again was Queen Bee with a lot of banter at the men’s expense. The hat was won by Froggy and the cards came out again and, you guessed it, Boots and Riddles defeated Ecka and Queen Bee again.

On Saturday, we packed the cars and headed to Forster. First week gone and the women are leading the points with 355 to the men 335.

Who will come out on top?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

JOHN BOWEN

I am reliably advised that our great friend, John Bowen, turns 90 on 16 September. John walked and played 18 holes in the Railway Comp on Tuesday 8 of this month. No doubt he had a blinder!

I remember playing one of my first games in a Saturday comp with John, only 50 years ago. Then, as now, John was the ultimate gentleman, whose demeanour and etiquette were a model for all golfers at Goulburn Golf Club.

John, on behalf of ALL our readers, may I wish you a VERY HAPPY
