It is officially fall, although the end of September still felt a lot like summer! This time of year
everyone is busy with football games and tailgating, but please remember to check your email for
game-day specials and watch parties. The Club is ready to host your before or after party! Mark
your calendars for our annual Halloween celebration on October 30th, details will be provided in
this edition of the Fore & More.
I am sure many of you are aware by now that I have announced my resignation as your
Membership Director. It is with a heavy heart that I leave this Club, but I have been offered a
position enabling me to further my career. I have the utmost respect and affection for each of you
and I will truly miss the daily interaction with you, our valued members. I hope to see many of you
in the community and maybe one day I will have the ability to join MCC as a member myself. I am
confident that Katrina will do as well or better then myself and enjoy this position as much as I did.
Thank you for your support and kindness over the past year and best wishes to each of you!

Food & Beverage Information
Now that fall is officially upon us it’s time for our fall menu that’s based on a number of
mid-west classics. The new menu will be rolling out in October. We have several
additional events and activities planned for the fall.
Cooking classes in October and maybe even a bread and baking class if there is enough
interest. My wife is a very accomplished baker and would love to do a bread class if there
is interest. She has already hooked the club house staff on her cookies and pastries. We
are also planning a children’s Halloween cookie decorating party. There will be lots of
cookies for the kids to decorate and take home.
We have a wine pairing scheduled for the fall as well. It will consist of four wines, four
courses, and should be great fun at a very reasonable price. It will be a chance to taste
some wines that you have had the chance to taste. They will be paired with foods to bring
out the wines subtle notes as well as the levels of flavor in the dishes. Then I’ve been
hearing about the horseradish festival in November. I understand it’s a great time so I
can’t wait.
I am always here at the club and available for any member that has a special request or
suggestion. This is your club so feel free to offer up your suggestions and comments. We
count on your input to build the club and its services fit your needs.
Cheers,
Chef John

Fall is fast approaching and cooler temperatures are on their way! With the drop in
temperatures we have finished our fall aerification and seeding program, we have also
completed the fall fertilization. The good weather has been very advantageous for our fall
cultural practices. With our over-seeding program, we have given special attention to the
fairways and tee boxes and we are continuing to over seed the weaker spots on the course in
a conscious effort to help maintain the best possible playing conditions. With the lower
temperatures at night, please keep in mind that frost conditions will be fast approaching and
we appreciate your patience during those times. Going in to October trees will begin
shedding their leaves and we will do our best to maintain the golf course in a playable
condition. Fall is a wonderful time so get out and enjoy this beautiful weather! Please
remember that Marks Revenge Tournament is scheduled for October 11th. We will have fun
setting up the golf course for this fantastic event! If you have any questions or concerns
please contact us.
We would also like to show our gratitude to Dennis and Mont Fair who have been doing an
amazing job with some much needed tree work.

A Letter From Our Golf Professional
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to take a moment of your time and thank every one of you for the opportunity to be your next Head Golf Professional. The dream of being a Head Professional has lingered for years now and it has finally come true. Thank you again! That being said I would like to mention the inventory in the Pro-Shop. Manhattan Country Club now owns the merchandise in the Pro-Shop. With that in mind, every purchase in the Pro-Shop proceeds the club, so not only are you helping your wardrobe out, or your golf game, but you are also helping the club. I promise to take care of our membership by not charging an arm and a leg for apparel, while still providing quality merchandise. If you have any special orders, or any other suggestions I am always available for your feedback! I believe in the Farmers Almanac for my weather patterns, looks like October might be a little chillier than normal but December, January, and February look promising! Lots of good golf days left! See you Soon!
Scott Wempe Head Golf Professional [email protected]
With the changing of the seasons, seems we too have several changes taking place around the Club! Sarah Boggs, Office Manager/Membership Director has accepted a new position to help advance her career. Sarah has done an outstanding job for us in the past 16 months and will certainly be missed. Taking over for her is Katrina Brooks, she has had over 20 years in the accounting arena for Frontier Farm Credit and spent the past 12 years at Shilling Construction. It’s Official; based on the performance of Scott Wempe during the last 90 days as our interim Pro and the numerous amount of positive feedback I’ve received from Members, staff and several guests, Scott has been selected as our new Head Golf Professional effective October 1st. Please stop in the office in the near future to introduce yourself and welcome Katrina to the club family; while you’re at it, drop by the shop and congratulate Scott on his promotion. In other areas of change, Chef has a new menu that we will be rolling out starting Tuesday, October 6th. We’ve kept several of your favorites but have made many changes based on Member request and seasonality of items. We hope you like it and look forward to your feedback. Chef also has a cooking class scheduled for this month so please check the details signup if you’re interested. If you’re looking for the perfect venue for your holiday party, please contact Chelsea ASAP. Many dates are starting to fill up and with the last KSU home game on Saturday, December 5th, that eliminates that Saturday for some. Please call today to reserve your date. Sunday, October 11th is the annual Mark’s revenge fundraiser golf tournament. This year’s proceeds will go to replacing the remaining tees with Zoysia sod which will be done next spring as weather permits. This is a really fun event and for a great cause. I think Mark loves it and it gives him a chance to get back at everyone when he starts picking the toughest pin placements possible. As in previous years, I’m even playing! You’d think we’d have some advantage since I’m on Mark’s team but we always seem to be in the back of the pack when the scores are turned in. I don’t know if it’s a reflection of my poor playing ability or Mark’s Revenge on the pin placements. Please come join in the fun! See you around the Club,
