ForcesLearning objectives:

1. Identify different types of forces

2. know the units in forces are measured.

3. Use newton meters to measure a force. And be able to measure the force of objects in the classroom.

4. Explain the difference between mass and weight

5. Be able to calculate the weight of various objects

From the movement of the planets to the energy produced inside atoms.......

......everything than happens in the universe

is ultimately caused by a FORCE.

What is a Force?

•A Force is anything that changes, or tries to change the shape or motion of a body.

•Forces can push or pull , stretch, squeeze, bend, slide and twist objects.

•We can’t see forces but we can see the effects of a force.

......there are Four Fundamental Forces of

Nature.

Forces can make things

•Speed up

•Slow down

•Change direction

•Change shape

Measuring Forces

•Forces are measured in newtons.

•We can write this as N.

•We use a Newton meterto measure forces.

It is sometimes called a force meter.

Dynamics - Force and Motion

•Dynamics is the study of how objects move when forces act on them.•Normally objects stay still in their motion because

of their Inertia.

•Once they start moving, they tend to carry on

doing so because of their Momentum.•Most types of everyday movement can be

explained by three laws called The Laws of Motion.

Newton’s 1st Law The Law of Inertia

•An object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by a force.

•The ability of an object to remain at rest is called its

Inertia.

Newton’s 2nd Law The Law of Force, Mass and Acceleration

The acceleration of an object depends on its mass and

the magnitude (size) of the Force applied

F = maThe unit of Force

is the NEWTON

For every action,

there is an equal and opposite

reaction.
