For ZOR, Te Puna watched Finding Dory and had to identify a character displaying each Zone. The challenge was for the first student to identify all the Zones and answer the questions: What zone are they in? How can you tell they are in that zone? How did they behave? Did their behaviour affect anyone around them? If the person could answer all the questions they scored a point. Samson won and identified all four zones in the movie. Well done Samson!! TP Zone King!

Te Puna also played Zones Bingo. Picture cards were picked at random, staff and students had to identify the emotion, see if the emotion matches any pictures on their bingo , then identify which zone it was. Samson was not only able to identify all emotions and zones but he also won the game!

Westbridge Residential team encourage physical activity everyday! We have been playing touch, bull rush, ball tiggy and playground tag to name a few. Playing sports is good for your physical and mental health. It also teaches everyone to work as a team, identify and manage their feelings as well as learning new skills. For Samson, it means stepping out of his comfort zone too! Well done Samson for giving it a go!

Samson also participated in a dance zoom class. Well done Samson for fully engaging in dance class, and practising your Westbridge goals throughout!

Te Puna joined the other cottages for our Cultural program – making pani popo in week 9, then making fried bread in week 10. Cooking programs teach our students how to work alongside others, practise following instructions and to do some problem solving if needed.

Samson also independently made pancakes for breakfast in the weekend. Samson had minimal help from staff, awesome work TP superstar!

Te Puna joined Kowhai cottage to make some slime in the weekend. This involved a lot of problem solving because it was not turning out right at the start. Samson was also practising following instructions, controlling his voice volume and working with peers.

Te Puna cottage bought a cool 4 in 1 games table! This gives our students a break from the screen and time to hang with their peers and staff. This table has brought out the competitiveness in Te Puna cottage so everyone is learning how to deal with losing as well as playing with others.

Every second Thursday, Westbridge Residential staff hold auction for our young people. Every day our students earn bonus points which are tokens they can use to buy goodies. This teaches our students about “currency” and earning tokens in order to buy something that they want or need. During this week’s auction, students were also asked some questions to earn an extra reward. Questions included: What is one thing that you’re really good at? What amazing stuff do you do in school? What are 2 things you will take away from Westbridge? How would you solve child poverty? All students answered positively and earned an extra treat!

Te Puna cottage has been revamping their wall displays. Make sure you pop through and check out their awesome new goals wall and photo wall.
