December 2018

Have you seen this image before? It is a quick visual to re-mind us about what Christmas is all about.

It is not about Santa in a red suit and beard. It is not about cookies and milk and reindeer. Christmas is all about the gift of God for us in Christ Jesus.

That gift had a purpose and a plan for our lives. It is im-portant for us to remember that it was God’s plan, at the fullness of time, to send forth His Son to be our Savior. Jesus, God’s greatest gift, was sent to die for us. It is a hum-bling reminder when we see this image of the Christmas wreath… that it is pointing forward to the crown of thorns.

Once again, we will focus on our sanctuary Christmas tree, and the brand new Chrismons (Christ Monogram). Chrismons are Christmas tree decorations that are designed using Chris-tian symbols; symbols that tell the story of Jesus.

This year the Chrismons will include symbols that trace the journey of Jesus from His crucifixion to His resurrection. We will focus on four of the Chrismons this year for our Advent theme. We hope you will join us as we journey through Advent, looking forward to the Christmas cele-bration.

In Christ,

For with You is the fountain of life; in Your Light we see light. Psalm 36:9

LUTHER’S SMALL CATECHISM THE THIRD COMMANDMENT

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.

Library News Days and month are always filled with appointments and activities. We’re asking a lot of you when we suggest taking time to read.

So… for our busy December, how about watch-ing holiday themed CD’s? Here are titles of some Family ones we’re setting out: Christmas Shoes, Christmas Blessings, Christmas Choir, The Crippled Lamb, Christmas with a Capital C.

There’ll also be these VeggieTales for Chil-dren: The Star of Christmas, Merry Larry & True Light of Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, Saint Nicholas—Joyful Giving.

For our “readers” we will set out the follow-ing books: “Windows on Christmas” by Bill Crowder. He takes a fresh look at the events from the perspective of six different people. “Because of Christmas” is Max Lucado’s way of showing us the promises of Christmas: a lifetime of hope and a Savior in heaven!

Doesn’t this fill you with joy and peace?

Elaine Rall, Library Representative

Sunday School

Sunday school students will be singing at beginning of 11 am ser-vice on December 16th. “What Child is This?” is the song we have decided to sing. Music has been handed out and all are en-couraged to learn all 3 verses. There are multiple ways to hear the old familiar song including YouTube.

We are not meeting during the Christmas nor New Year week-ends (December 23 & 30). Classes will resume January 6. Happy New Year to all.

Your servant in Christ, Karla O’Shea

YOUTH NEWS! YOUTH NEWS! YOUTH NEWS! YOUTH NEWS! YOUTH NEWS! YOUTH NEWS!

GLORY TO THE NEWBORN KING!! Watch Fast Directory, the Torch, the announcement page on Sunday mornings, and your monthly newsletter for information regarding Open Youth Room. Open Youth Room is held from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room. The refrigerator is full and the fellowship is always waiting! Friends are always welcome! Hope to see you all there for a lot of fun!

Thank you to everyone who plucked a feather from Tom Turkey again this year. With your help the youth were able to fill nine baskets for members of our church and school who are in need at this time. The baskets were filled to the brim with enough food to give each family a Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings. The names of the families were kept anonymous and were distributed to each family through our Tabitha Fund Program. The youth are continually reminded through their service to the community and Trinity of the many blessings they re-ceive on a daily basis. We thank God for each youth who take time out of their busy schedules to serve.

IT’S BACK!!!! Winter Retreat…mark those calendars for the weekend of January 2-4 2019. Don’t miss out on this fabulous opportunity! You have all been earning money in your accounts by working several events and should have enough money to cover the cost! You will enjoy various outdoor winter activities, Bible study, games, music, and much more! Spaces are filling up fast!

The youth will be having their annual pizza sale immediately following the Christmas holiday. The pizzas are from Little Caesar’s company and are delicious. This is the one fundraiser where each youth gets the full return on their individual sales. The order forms will be sent out during Christmas break. We are asking that each youth group member to sell six items. Any Trinity members who would like to purchase pizzas may do so by seeing a youth group member or Mr. Grady. Thank you for your support!

Information regarding the 2019 Mission Trip will be forthcoming after the first of the year. The Senior Youth are headed to Minnesota for the National Youth Gathering. The middle school Youth are headed to Wisconsin. Please see Mr. Grady if you have any questions on the trips.

Remember Youth Bible Class on Sunday morning at church and school. Bible class is held every week and begins at 9:45 a.m.

Christmas Blessings!

The Board of Youth Ministry

Walther Christian Academy will have their first placement test on Saturday, December 8th at 9:00 a.m.

Trinity Members Respond Generously By Rev. Mark Bussert, Director of Stewardship

Results from Trinity’s Fall Stewardship Emphasis, “Live Free,” are completed, and once again our people have shown their de-votion to the Lord and to Trinity’s ministries.

108 households submitted Faith Commitment cards on September 30 (and fol-lowing weeks), totaling more than $440,000 for the coming year. That is an aver-age of $4,300 per household, almost $85 per week. 37 Faith Commitments (36%) showed an increase over previous giving.

Typically, the amount pledged through our Fall Emphasis are about 56% of the total amount given for the year. If that is true for 2019 (it has varied anywhere between 53% and 62%), offerings will be about $790,000, approximately 5% more than this year.

Thank you to all our faithful contributors for returning offerings to the Lord, and

thank You to God for the abundance He gives us which enables us to spread the Gospel in our community and around the world!
