WHAT: Fiddler on the Roof is the heart-warming, Tony Award-winning musical about the milkman, Tevye and his family in the Jewish community of Anatevka in Tsarist Russia. Tevye strives to keep up the traditions of his faith and culture against a backdrop of discrimination and prejudice. Tevye and his wife, Golda, hope to guide their five daughters to adulthood, and struggle with the notion of pre-arranged marriage vs. the opportunity for their daughters to find their own loves. Tradition, conflict, humor, love and acceptance are the main themes of this beloved musical. Fiddler on the Roof, book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Based on Sholom Aleichem’s stories WHERE: Plymouth Congregational Church, 1301 Oak Street, Paso Robles WHEN: Auditions are on Sunday, June 12 th at 4pm. Please be on time. If you cannot attend on Sunday, you may be allowed to audition on Monday, June 13 th . If you cannot attend either date, please contact Director Cynthia Anthony (805-610-0786) to make arrangements for a different date. HOW TO PREPARE: Please be prepared to sing no more than 32 bars (or approximately 1 minute) of a song from the musical theatre. Please bring your own accompaniment track on smart phone, mp3 or CD. The track cannot have any singing on it. You may be asked to learn a simple dance combination and/or asked to read from the script. Bring all conflicts to include on your audition form. There are non-singing roles. CALL BACKS: Will be on Monday, June 13 th , 6pm, at the same location. Lazar Wolf (M 35 – 65) the butcher. He is the wealthiest man in town. He wants to marry Tevye’s daughter, Tzeitel.

Feisty. Baritone

Tzeitel (F 18 – 30) eldest daughter. Strong willed. Strong actress, ballet a plus. Mezzo

Motel (M 18 – 35) the tailor. He is meek, nervous and sensitive. A loveable mensch in love with Tzeitel. Tenor.

Hodel (F 16 – 25) the second daughter, in love with Perchick, a radical, optimistic young man. Strong actress, ballet a

plus. Mezzo

Perchik (M 18 – 35) the tutor. A visitor to the town. A radical who challenges the traditions. Charismatic, in love with

Hodel. Tenor.

Chava (F 16 – 25) third daughter. The scholar of the family wiho falls love and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier.

She breaks her father’s heart. Ballet skills for the Chava ballet. Mezzo.

Fyedka (M 18 – 35) the Russian soldier. A strong soldier who falls in love with Chava. High tenor. Dance skills a plus.

Shprintza and Bielke (F 8 – 14) the two youngest daughters.

Bar Mitzvah Boys and the Sons (M 8 – 16) counterparts to the youngest daughters.

The Constable (M 28 – 45) the Russian military official. He and Tevye have an understanding, but this doesn’t stop him

from doing his job.

The Rabbi (M 40 – 80) the religious leader of the village. Baritone.

Grandma Tzeitel (F 50 – 80) she is a ghost figure in Tevye’s dream with a very strong solo. The actress will also play a

village person. Mezzo

Fruma-Sarah (F 40 – 70) is a ghost figure in Tevye’s dream. Requires a strong singer actress. This role will also be a

villager. Mezzo.

The Fiddler (M any age) must be able to climb a ladder to stand atop a ‘roof’. Must be able to play the fiddle, or fake it

well.

Villagers, Russians, Dancers, Soldiers, Mothers, Fathers, Sons, Daughters – (M and F ages 11 – 80) the Ensemble will be

featured in many songs, dances and scenes.
