For students entering Grade 4 Dear Fourth Grader, Summer vacation is just around the corner! I know that after ten months of hard work, you’re ready to relax and just enjoy two months of no homework or tests to worry about. Summer vacation, however, provides an opportunity to get ready for the next school year. Reading Attached you will find the Reading packet which you are required to complete during the summer break. The packet includes a book report form and a reading log. You will have to read and, using the attached book report form, complete a book report on Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Make sure to read all the directions carefully as you would not want to miss any important detail. I will be collecting the book report on the first day of school. It will count as your first test grade, so complete it well! I also suggest that you read two or more books after Because of Winn Dixie. It is for this reason that I have attached a suggested reading list. Fill in the attached log after you have finished reading a book. The student who reads the most number of books during the summer will win a prize. Math The attached Math packet will help you practice the skills you learned in third grade. Dear Fourth Grader,

Reading

Attached you will find the Reading packet which you are required to complete duringthe summer break. The packet includes a book report form and a reading log.

Reading

Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo is required reading for all incoming fourth graders. Areport on this book -- using the attached Book Report Form -- is due on the first day of school, and willcount for one test grade. Students will also be given a test on Because of Winn Dixie soon after thebeginning of school.

Summer vacation provides an opportunity to select books to read and build a lifelong habit of readingfor enjoyment. To cultivate this habit, you are expected to read for at least 20 to 30 minutes a day.Keep a record of the books you read using the log attached. You are not required to read a minimumnumber of books, but there may be a surprise in store for the student who reads the most!

The following is a list of suggested books to choose from. However, you may select other books thatinterest you as long as they are grade-appropriate.
