The seven pretty gals shown above added sparkle and pep to this year's sporting events. led by head majorettes Margaret Hastings and Deede Carney, the unit created their own precision-like dance routines.
During the football season, the majorettes marched with the band at a high stepping pace. Their original performances were eagerly applauded by the student body during pep rallies. The girls also accompanied the band in all parades and victory marches. They presented a winning combination of rhythm and school spirit.

It's The
Coach
The '62 Jet Varsity posted an exciting but rewarding season. The margin between a perfect slate and two losses was a slim four baskets. Sportsmanship and teamwork were two factors which enabled the gals to collect their victories.
Both teams are indeed grateful to their coach, Mrs. Tr<Jder, for leading them through another winning season.

Basketball Season Highlighted by Miss Blue Jay
Contest Following the Seaford-Wicomico game of Feb
ruary 16, a coronation hop was held at which time Bonnie Hughes, Miss Blue Jay VII, crowned her successor, Sandy Newton. Miss Blue Jay was attended during the ceremony l>y the six other contestants who represented various school clubs.
Votes were cast by money dropped into jars by the students of the Junior and Senior High Schools. Proceeds derived from the contest are used to help defray the cost of publishing the school paper, The Blue Jay, which sponsors the contest.

Blue Jay Pepmakers Build Spirit Junior Varsity Squad
This year the cheerleaders added several new items to their growing list of duties. They prepared interesting posters and displayed them in the halls of S.H.S. before every major game. During basketball season they designed long fight banners that were hung in the gym.
The varsity gals organized another first when they planned a large basketball rally in the gymnasium with the aid of the band. Three cheers for this tireless group!

Miss Dorcas Tull Coach
Under the capable leadership of Miss Dorcas Tull the recently formed girl's softball team was guided through their second season. The fine team spirit and cooperation of each player was outstanding. Since the team was composed of a large number of returnees, the Jets have a bright future ahead.
Carriages and costumes, representative of Dover's history-packed past, are much in evidence on "Old Dover Days," observed annually the first Saturday and Sunday in May. Contrasting Old Dover is an ultramodern Air Force base, nearby. The Seniors compare their journey to commencement - another beginning.

Bakes First and Last Projects Under the co-chairmanship of Carol Johnson and Judy Filer, the Junior class
bake was held on April 7, 1961, at Manning's Pharmacy, Acme Market, the A&P, Woolworth's, and Hopkins' Drug Store. As the first money-making project of the Class of 1962, the bake was considered extremely successful as nearly $1,000 was taken in. Students not only received good ex~erience in soliciting and selling, but enjoyed sampling a few of the "goodies", too.
Staged by Class of 1962 On December 9, 1961, the Senior class bake was held at five locations in Seaford
and several in Laurel. The project was again under the supervision of Judy Filer and Carol Johnson with various district chairmen to collect the contributions and bake goods. Although the amount of money collected did not equal the contributions made last year, the class was joyous at having over six hundred dollars on a cold, cold day.

Modern Psycho-analyst Portrayed by Junior Class
"Six Stitches for Ego", a startling, wacky comedy was presented by the Junior class on March 17, 1961, under the direction of Mr. Joseph Viggiano, Latin instructor, assisted by Melissa McGinty, student director.
The play depicted an average day in the Bell School for Adults which psychologists Dr. Solomon Bell had conducted for years. The school served as a refuge for persons who are quiet and sensible on the surface, but have stormy feelings building up on the inside.
A hungry chorus girl, a "gentle" banker, a spinster, a frustered commercial artist, a nineteen year old mother of triplets and an unhappy debutante were included on the usual guest list.
This three act comedy, written by Vera and Ken Tarpley, was produced by special arrangement with Row, Peterson, and Company of New York.

Girl on the Football Team? Seniors Explore Possibilities
"Time Out For Ginger", a comedy by Ronald Alexander was presented by the members of the Senior Class on December 1, 1961, under the direction of Miss Lydia Jordan, English and dramatics instructor, with Judy Filer as student director.
Ginger, a fourteen-year-old tomboy was hilariously portrayed by Nancy Mayer. Her bewildered parents-Eddie Parker and Becky Rolph-tried to get Ginger to become more feminine, and Ruth Smith and Fran Stewart, her disgusted sisters worried about losing their prestige in school because of their sister's unusual actions. Alas, an amazingly funny situatron developed.
Ken Savage enacted the part of Ginger's boyfriend and Dick Howard her sister's Boyfriend who was embarrassingly beaten in a race with this vivacious tomboy. The understanding maid was comically played by Norma Lee German and Tom Mulrine acted the part of the outraged bank president.
Howard Joseph, the high school principal, was daily faced with objections from the other members of the football team who didn't approve of Ginger's inclusion and her family was nearly forced to leave town, but, happily, Ginger decided it is no fun being a tomboy and having her father call her "son". In the final scene she donned a party dress and became once again-a girl.
