The Obituary It is with great sadness that the family of Effie Lee Thurman Ruff, at the age of 84 years old, announces her passing at Atrium Health University City in Charlotte N.C., on Friday, February 28, 2020. Effie was born in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina on May 5, 1935 to the late John Thurman and Daisy Malone Thurman. Effie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband T. J. Ruff, a son; John David Hopper and other siblings. Effie will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters; Tanya Ruff, and Donna Ruff. Effie Ruff will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren; Kamilah Hill, Shola Adeosun, Ashley Knight-Williams, Michelle Knight -Williams, Tyler Owens and Kwan Jankee. She also adored her 3 great grandchildren Sinaya Dixon, Benjamin Fowler and Caden Goldman. Effie was born and shared many memories with 11 siblings, she cherished her two surviving sisters; Emma Hopper and Annie Thurman, and loved many nieces, nephews, cousins, son-in-law John (Bittu), other relatives and friends. Effie enjoyed and dedicated her life to nursing and after retirement she continued helping others. She was so sweet, humble and loved by everyone. Effie enjoyed singing and being the music director of the children's choir, "Jewels of Joy." Other hobbies was playing on women's basketball team of Douglas High School, cooking, singing, baking, and praying. She was dedicated to her church Palmer Grove Baptist Church. She volunteered on the Democratic Party Commit-tee and was proud to give her service over 50 years to the elderly. Effie will be truly missed as she transitioned on her journey to a better place to get her crown of glory in heaven. Effie lived a legacy walking in Christ and always will be remembered, as she would often say, "Always put God First." Leviticus 19:2
