About Folk Alliance

To nurture, engage and empower the international folk music community – traditional and contemporary, amateur, and professional – through

education, advocacy, and performance.

OUR MISSION

Folk Alliance International (FAI) was founded in 1989 to connect folk music leaders aiming to sustain the community and genre. The leading international voice for folk music, FAI is a 30-year-old arts nonprofit based in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

The organization’s expanded global network now includes more than 3,000 members. This worldwide community includes cultural sector entrepreneurs and leaders that includes artists, record companies, publishers, presenters, agents, managers, arts administrators, and more.

Returning to Canada in 2019, the Folk Alliance International (FAI) conference theme will explore the artistic process from inspiration to vocation. Join us for a collective conversation about innovation, collaboration, and spirituality in art.

Host city Montréal is known for its vibrant music scene and public celebration of the arts. In addition, our conference hotel, the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s bed-in at the hotel where they wrote: “Give Peace a Chance.”

All artists are accepted through FAI’s juried applications. FAI will provide stage signage with your logo and will list your organization as a sponsor anywhere it is relevant. Sponsorship includes one registration if the sponsor is actively encouraging artists to apply for official showcases.

FAI provides a full backline and private showcase listing for one night on a stage used earlier for official showcases - available for programming from 10:30 pm - 2:30 am.
