JAPANESE CANADIAN INTERNMENT CAMPS
Gerald Tanaka will present stories of the little-known Japanese Canadian Internment camps in Canada. JAMES THOMAS RUSSELL “REFLECTIONS”
This collection of stainless steel sculptures, models and drawings spans five decades of work by California artist James Thomas Russell. Rus- sell’s career includes 150 commissioned works of public art, including the Cerritos Veterans Memorial. The City is proud to have two ad- ditional sculptures by Russell in its collection: “Angelic Duet” in the Cerritos Towne Center and “Intercept” at the Cerritos Auto Square. This ex- hibit will be featured in the main lobby through August 28.
“ONLY THE OAKS REMAIN” “Only the Oaks Remain” commemorates the
history of the Tuna Canyon Detention Station. The display illuminates the mostly untold story of the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans and includes an Honor Wall that bears each detainee’s name. “Only the Oaks Remain” is presented by the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the site’s history. This exhibit will be featured near the Craftsman area through the month of August.
