BGC PlasterboardBefore commissioning a Plasterboard plant in Australia, BGC researched the world's foremost plasterboard

manufacturing countries, in order to adopt the most advanced production techniques, available today.

BGC Plasterboard is purpose designed as a complete wall and ceiling lining system that conforms to the stringentdemands of regulatory bodies throughout Australia and overseas.

Our highly professional team of engineers and skilled personnel maintain world class plant and equipment at ourWestern Australian factory premises and, together with the Company's pursuance of manufacturing excellence,

assures the specifying and building industry of quality BGC Plasterboard products.

As a wholly owned, privately operated Australian company, BGC recognises the importance of product Research andDevelopment programmes. Continued investment into this discipline ensures BGC will remain a leader in the

manufacturing and supply of quality building products and materials.

BGC Fire-Resistant (FR)Plasterboard Partition Systems

IntroductionBGC Plasterboards Fire-Rated Systems, consist ofsingle or multiple layers of BGC FR Plasterboardsheets, screw-fixed to steel framing and nail or screwfixed to timber stud framing.

BGC FR Plasterboard is manufactured to therequirements of Australian Standards AS/NZS2588:1998 - “Gypsum plasterboard” and must beinstalled in accordance with the Australian StandardsAS/NZS 2589.1:1997 - “Gypsum linings in residentialand light commercial construction-application andfinishing. Part 1: Gypsum plasterboard”.

BGC FR Plasterboard Fire Rated Systems have beentested AS/NZS 3837: 1998 and AS/NZS 1530.4:1997, by NATA accredited testing laboratories.

Test reports and letters of opinion are available onrequest from BGC Plasterboard.

BGC FR Plasterboard has a light-pink facing paper-board for easy identification and is available in 13mmand 16mm thicknesses with recessed edges, ready fortaping and jointing with proprietary stopping andsetting compounds.

Early Fire Hazard IndicesBGC FR Plasterboard complies with the Building Codeof Australia (BCA) Material Group NumberClassification and Deemed to Satisfy Provisions, asdetermined by AS/NZS 3837: 1998 tests.

l Material Classification: Group 1. (BCA) Specification A2.4)

l Suitability as Wall and Ceiling Lining In Fire-Isolated Exits, Public Corridors, Specified and Other Areas. (BCA Specification C1.10a Section 3(c) and Table 2: Wall and Ceiling Linings Material Groups Permitted.

CSIRO BCE Certificate No 482

AvailabilityBGC FR Plasterboard is available in 13mm and 16mmthicknesses, 1200mm wide and in various lengths.

BGC Plasterboard ensures that the range of stocksheet sizes listed, are available however, variations mayoccur in some states, Refer Table 1.

Table 1

ApplicationBGC FR Plasterboard wall systems are suitable forindustrial, commercial and residential applications, both in the new construction and renovation sectors.

Load bearing and non-load bearing walls and partitionscan be clad with single or multiple layers of BGC FRPlasterboard, with or without cavity infill insulation, toachieve the required results for fire resistance: FRLand acoustic properties: RW.

Non-Load Bearing WallsThe maximum wall heights for non-load bearing firerated walls, in this Installation Guide are for laterallyloaded walls of 0.25 kPa, as set out in Tables 2 and 3.

The maximum stud height is based H/240 or 30mmmaximum deflection, to comply with BCA 2004Specification 1.8 Clause 3.4.

Timber Stud Wall HeightNoggins in timber stud walls must be spaced at 1350mm maximum centres.

Table 3 - Non-Load Bearing Timber StudWall Height Selection Table

Load Bearing WallsLoad bearing walls in this Installation Guide must bedesigned and constructed in accordance with AS 1684and AS 1720, for timber construction and AS/NZS4600 and AS 3623 for light-weight Cold-Formed-Formed (CFS) steel construction.

Load bearing walls must be designed and constructedto take all loads without any cladding or lining.

InstallationInstallation is to be in accordance with the BGCPlasterboard Fixing Instruction Manual: BGC PB201DEC 2003 and as set out in this manual.

Fire rated plasterboard must be fastener fixed to steeland timber framing.

Stud adhesive must not be used.

For double-layered systems all joints must bestaggered and butt joints in the outer layer may bereinforced with laminating screws.

All perimeter gaps and penetrations must be fullysealed with fire rated mastic sealant, to attain therequired FRL and RW ratings.

Penetrations (Typical)Special design considerations apply to Fire Rated wallsin order to maintain the Fire Rating (FRL) of a system.

l Electrical penetrations must not be placed back to back or more than one penetration per stud spacing.

l Proprietery Fire Rated switch boxes are to be used.

l BGC Plasterboard recommends the use of min R1.5 insulation batt be included in the wall cavity to assistin maintaining acoustic integrity.

l All penetrations shall be sealed with a Fire Rated mastic filler. See Figure 1.

l Where plumbing penetrations are required - all pipework must be self supporting.
