AmCham Abu Dhabi Announces 2015 Excellence Awards Winners

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. – At AmCham Abu Dhabi’s 5th Annual Excellence Awards and 15th Annual Charity Gala, over 300 top business executives and government officials came together to recognize leading U.S. and U.A.E. companies, institutions and entrepreneurs for their dedication to strengthening U.S.-U.A.E. commercial relations. The finalists were honored Friday, January 30, with an evening gala at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, sponsored by Al Noor Hospitals Group and other generous supporters.

The Excellence Awards applaud best-in-class American and Emirati individuals and businesses for their achievements in the local business community. The winners of the five awards are:

Salem Rashid Al Noaimi, CEO & Managing Director of Waha Capital and Partner,

SeedStartUp, received the Young Achiever Award, which recognizes a young entrepreneur under the age of 40 who has demonstrated smashing success in professional practice and exemplifies a commitment to excellence by inspiring others in launching U.A.E. based business opportunities. As CEO & Managing Director of Waha Capital, Salem plays a key role in identifying and helping to build robust businesses and investments in Abu Dhabi. In addition, he is a partner of SeedStartUp, a startup accelerator and venture capital fund that invests in seed-stage digital media startups through a combination of funding, mentoring, coaching and networking.

Janice Phillips, General Manager, Olgoonik Global Security, received the Woman

in Business Award, which recognizes a working female who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and accomplishment by pushing barriers, overcoming challenges and setting an example of perseverance and professionalism. Janice has been actively involved in the Abu Dhabi business community for the past 10 years. She has led Olgoonik Global Security to double in size in just two years, while providing key life support services to the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Janice also serves the wider American business community through her position as Chair of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (O.S.A.C.), which serves as an interface between American companies in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Department of State on matters of security. Under her leadership O.S.A.C.’s membership has grown from 40 to 300.

Dr. Kassem Alom, Founder and Vice Chairman, Al Noor Hospitals Group, received

the Falcon Individual Award, which recognizes an individual demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable U.S.-U.A.E. business relations. As the Founder and Deputy Chairman of Al Noor Hospitals Group, Dr. Alom oversees the largest private healthcare company in Abu Dhabi with 20 healthcare facilities serving over 7,000 patients per day. Etihad Airways received the Falcon Organization Award, which recognizes an organization demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable U.S.-U.A.E. business relations. AmCham Abu Dhabi recognized Etihad Airways for its role in developing trade and tourism links between the U.A.E. and the U.S. In 2014 Etihad witnessed major expansion in its US network of New York, Chicago and Washington, DC to include Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas/Fort Worth.

This year, AmCham Abu Dhabi also hosted the 3rd AmCham MENA Regional Council Women in Business Awards. The AmCham MENA Regional Council represents nine AmChams: Abu Dhabi, UAE, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. The AmCham MENA Regional Council Women in Business Awards recognize notable achievements on the part of women in the Middle East and North Africa region. This includes top female talent from the corporate world, entrepreneurs and civil society, whose achievements have set the benchmark for others to follow. This year, a new category has been introduced to recognize companies with effective gender diversity programs in place within the MENA region. The winners of the four awards are:

Proceeds raised from the event are donated to local charities and educational institutions, in support of U.A.E. aid programs and initiatives. • Salem Rashid Al Noaimi: Salem Rashid Al Noaimi has an extensive background in investment banking. He has been the CEO of Waha Capital PJSC since 2007, and Managing Director since 2012. • Janice Phillips : Janice Phillips leads the team at Olgoonik Global Security/ Diplomatic Support Division, a company that provides life support services to the US Embassy in the UAE.
