Motivation Any measurement result is incomplete if uncertainty of the measurement is not provided with it. As per the requirement of measurements / calibrations, all the laboratories are needed to estimate uncertainty of different parameters. While estimating the Measurements Uncertainty, one need to have knowledge and understanding of important uncertainty components in the given situation which are to be taken into account. In general, it will include uncertainty of reference standards / materials reported in their calibration certificates, measurement method employed, equipment used and environmental conditions etc. but for the specific cases it may include other components also. The highly qualified and experienced professionals of respective areas will address the practical problems in deciding the important contributing factors of uncertainty. The programme will provide confidence to the participants for evaluating and reporting the measurement uncertainty of various parameters.

Objectives The broad objectives of the programme are: • to impart an interactive experience to the participants in the area of

measurement uncertainty of electrical and mechanical parameters. • to encourage the engineers, scientists and technologists working in the

area of testing and calibration in laboratories/ institutes to venture into different aspects of uncertainties.

Course Content Measurement Uncertainty

• Concepts and terminology • Sources of uncertainties

Components of uncertainties • Type A uncertainty • Type B uncertainty

Practical Sessions for Uncertainty Evaluation of following parameters: • Electrical: AC/DC Voltage & Current • Mechanical: Length & Mass

Pedagogy • Interactive sessions by experts • Case studies of uncertainty evaluation • Hands-on / practical sessions • Discussions on various aspects

Who should attend

Scientists, Technical Officers and Technical Assistants from CSIR and other Govt. & Private Organisations. Technologists and Technical Managers from private laboratories / NABL Accredited Laboratories/ industries / academic institutes performing measurements for R&D, testing, calibration and persons aspiring to take up career in the field of Electrical and Mechanical Metrology. [Seats are limited and will be filled on first come first serve basis. Number of participants per institute/ industry may be limited in case of overwhelming response.]

Upcoming Workshop for Chemical and Biological Sciences We are in the process of designing next workshop on measurement uncertainty evaluation for chemical and biological areas. Interested participants of these areas may provide their expectations (if any) to the coordinator for covering in the upcoming workshop to maximize the benefit of the participants.
