Reading Club Hours

Read to Your Baby!

Our Summer Reading Club for babies and toddlers (birth to 2 years)July 1–July 31

Build early learning skills with your baby or toddler while having fun. By sharing books with your children, you show them that reading is important while actually

helping them get ready to read. Children’s learning starts at home and you are your child’s first and best teacher. We encourage you to introduce your baby or toddler to the magic and wonder of books. Our Children’s Librarians will be happy to provide you with book suggestions.

Come into the Library beginning July 1 and receive a reading record and bookmark to get you started. Read 20 books to your baby or toddler during the month and

show your completed reading record to a Children’s Librarian between July 31 and August 7. Your child will then receive a free book for your collection as well as an adorable magnetic photo frame.

MAKE A SPLASH—

READ!

Stop by the Library and pick up the July bookmark by Skylar Kouril. A reading list, compiled by our Children’s Librarians, is on the back.

The Library has been a real asset in the expansion of my career as an author and motivational speaker. Northport Library was one of the first libraries to give me a chance to stand up in front of a group and deliver my message. Their recommendation opened doors to many other library speaking opportunities. The interest, support and enthusiasm of the staff for my first book has always been steadfast. I’ve used the library as a quiet refuge to formulate new ideas and organize new projects. The technology available has allowed me to work cooperatively, especially in the editing process. One of the things that I really appreciate about our library is that if a book that I am looking for is not in our collection, they will search it out among other Suffolk libraries. In no time I get a call that the book I want is waiting for me to pick it up. The entire staff including the circulation folks, the reference librarians, the café staff, the security people and the administration make me feel welcome every time I visit. I truly feel at home in my library. — Jim Ryan

The Northport Library has been an excellent source for historical research. With access to major library and research centers throughout the country, the Library’s staff have been helpful to me in securing information that I might otherwise have missed. They have helped make my labors easier and more produc-tive. They are professionals in every sense of the word and I truly appreciate their efforts. As a community cultural and educational cen-ter, the Northport Library is without equal. Lectures, concerts, seminars, movies, tax preparation, children’s programs, the list is endless. It is one-stop shopping for the mind and soul. And, no one does it better. Great job all around! — Ralph A. Notaristefano

Over the years I have enjoyed coming to the Library. The people there are always friendly & ready to help and they usually go the extra mile so to speak when you have a problem in finding what you are looking for. The group at the Reference Desk is really terrific. Along with all of the above, the many books, magazines, papers, catalogues, it is a wonderland of information. So many people wish their library had a snack bar when I tell them of all they can obtain at the Library. The Quiet Room, as well as the room for tutoring is very helpful and—on the light side—the movies & other productions are usually very good. — Frank Roessle

The Library has made a tremendous difference in my life and my partner Rita DeLuise. We are both active seniors involved in the Northport Chapter of AARP. We are grateful for the use of your large, comfortable Community Room for our Chapter’s many activities. In addition we think your enter-tainment programs get better every year and highly recommended them to our members and friends. I teach the AARP driving course at the North-port building every month. I am getting along in years but keep off retiring because of the wonderful cooperation I receive from the staff from the time I get there until the class is over. Rita and I got interested in computers about eleven years ago even though we did not own com-puters. The use of Library computers until we got our own made the process easier to learn. When I have some idle time, the reading room is a blessing. Between the newspapers and the hot coffee that is available it is much preferred over wasting time at the television set. The Northport-East Northport Library is truly a four-star operation. — Abraham Thompson
