I feel much elated to see the College Newsletter coming out

successfully. All the activities in different domains clearly indicate that

the college is progressing in the right direction.

We have plans and dreams in the years to come to move forward in

creating academic excellence.

Education is not the act of acquiring knowledge from the books

alone but transforming into a responsible citizen of India.

I can boldly say that we have excelled in every initiative that we

Department of Management Studies organized an Orientation Program to

the new coming MBA Students (First Year) from 22.08.16 to 26.08.16.

The program was inaugurated by Mr.K.R.Nalluswamy Proprietor,

OrangeImpex, Karur. On 24 .08.2016 Mr.JohnSubakar Dy. Manager -

HR, Chettinad Institution, was invited as guest speaker and interacted

with the students on the topic “Living a fulfilling life in College” and

on26.08.2016. Mrs.B.Vijayarukmani, Managing Director,Tech. & Tex.

Weaving Mills, Karur was invited as special speaker to motivate the

fresher’s on the topic “Let good things begin”.

The Bridge course Inauguration for the 10th batch of First year

engineering students was held on 11th July 2016. From 11th July to

22nd July the course was conducted to bridge the gap between school

and college. Various ice-breaking games were conducted and the state-

of-art infrastructure was exposed to the fresher’s by arranging a

campus tour.

The Inauguration for this academic year was conducted on 1st Aug

2016. One day orientation on English communication was given on the

opening day to build the self-confidence of the fresher’s.

Designers” on September 14th 2016. Final year student Mr.R.Gokul welcomed

the gathering. Principal Dr.Mrs.A.Punitha delivered the presidential address.

inaugural address was given by the chief guest Mr.B.Suresh, Head- Technical

Services of Chettinad Cement Corporation Ltd., Mr.C.T.Sundaram of final

year thanked the gathering.

Department of EEE&EIE

The inaugural function of AEEE (Association of Electrical and Electronics

Engineering) and AEIE (Association of Electronics and

InstrumentationEngineering) was held on 24.09.16.

Corporation Limited, inaugurated the function.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering inaugurated their

association “MESA” on September 26th 2016. Final year Mechanical student

Mr.U.Aravind welcomed the gathering. The inaugural address was given by

the chief guest Mr.G.Nallasivan, Deputy General Manager, Commercial

(FB), BHEL, Trichy. He shared his experience in boiler industry among the

Mechanical engineers and brought out the importance of practical knowledge.

The office bearers for the academic year 2016-2017 were announced. Finally,

Ms.P.T.Devibala from final year Mechanical delivered vote of thanks.

Department of MBA

On 22.09.2016 the CAMS ’16 (Chettinad Association of Management Studies)

was inaugurated by Mr.P.Sudhakar, Chief Promoter and Managing

Director, Synthesis Home Textiles (P) Ltd., & Chairman CII –Karur

Chapter. Mr.G.Mukesh, I year MBA student welcomed the gathering and

Mr.K.Bharath, CAMS Co-ordinator & Assistant Professorintroduced the

Office bearers of the Association. Mr.P.K.Yashvanth, Student’s Chairman of

CAMS and all the association members have taken the Pledge. During the

interaction session, the Chief Guest, answered the questions raised by the

students. Finally, Ms.Gayathri, Joint Secretary of CAMS has proposed the

vote of thanks.

Guest lecture to the MBA students was organized by Department of

Management Studies, Chettinad College of Engineering and Technology, Karur

on 27.10.2016. Shri.Alagesan, Senior Executive – Cost Department,

Chettinad Cement Corporation, Puliyur was the Chief Guest and delivered

the special address. In his speech he focused on importance of costing

accounting on reducing administration overheads and other expenses. He gave

lot of practical examples and explained the concepts relating to cost

accounting.

Dr.Mrs.A.Punitha, Principal In-Charge, Chettinad College of Engineering

and Technology, delivered Presidential address. In her speech, she pointed out

the importance of costing and its application in today’s corporate world.

MR. V. Hariprasath, Assistant Professor, attended a one day

Faculty Development Program titledIgniting Startup India

Program held on 22-06-2016, conducted by ICTACT Bridge 2016,

and also attended Industry Interaction Trichy 2016, conducted

by AGIIT, Coimbatore at Trichy on 22-09-2016.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has initiated the Consultancy

Activities and has done a project “Report Generation” for ChettinadVidhyaMandir

School, Chettipalayam, Karur. This project was done successfully by the third year

CSE students Mr.S.Nilanth and Ms.K.Deepika and coordinated by the faculty

Mr.R.Gopal, Assistant Professor, CSE Department. This project generates the report

card for each and every students. In this report card, the individual student attendance

percentage, marks obtained in all subjects, the rank, first mark obtained in each and

every subject. It helps the parents to analyse their children’s performance in the

examination. It is very much helpful for the teachers to generate the rank card easily.

In the next semester, the department of CSE & IT will plan to do a consultancy

activity for the company “Synthesis Home Textiles Limited, Karur” for developing

Mobile App for the benefit of employees. The Final Year Civil students will plan to do a

project for “Govt.Hr.Sec.School, Renganathanpettai, Nerur” to construct a

Compound Wall from the Wastage things and complete the project in the month of

December.

The English club is actively conducting competitions like English Elocution, Story

Telling, Essay Competition and Spell bee Competitions. The Forest Department of

India had arranged competitions like Oratory, Essay, and painting in English and

On account of the first death anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, English, Tamil

Oratorical and Drawing Competitions were conducted from 8th to 10th August

G.Keerthana of I Mech, Sathya of IV EEE, Suguna II MBA and R. Kayalvizhi

were appreciated in Independence day Celebration.

On account of Swach Bharath observation of swachta Pakhwada, painting

competition was conducted on the topic SWACH BHARATH on14th September 16.

Mr.N. A. Nandhakumaran of IV EEE was selected as the College Ambassador for

the academic year 2016-17 by the Principal. In connection with Swachhta

Pakhwada during the period from 1st to 15th September, our college organized

cleaning activities and afforestation through the NSS Volunteers.

Our college celebrated International Youth Day on 12th August 2016. Principal,

Faculty members, RRC Volunteers and Students had participated in this celebration

and taken oath. NSS volunteers and the students formed a human chain to create

awareness on HIV & AIDS.

Leo Club conducted in various social welfare activities. Recently the club has

organized a series of events subjected to explore the skills and social interest of

students. With a great support from Management , Principal, Staff members, Leo

volunteers and students, the Leo faculty coordinators Mr. M.

SaravanaKarthikeyan, Asst. Professor/IT & Mr.T.Gobinath, Asst. Professor/IT

successfully carried out the below mentioned events.

The “Citizen’s Voice” was conducted as a part of World Youth Day’s celebration

on Monday, the 12th of August 2016. Participants from various departments

Professor/ECE were the juries for this event. Participants presented their ideas

on topics such as Urbanization Vs Agriculture, Technology: Sophistication Vs

Health Hazards and Responsibility: Individual Vs Leader. Ms.Geethalaxmi, II

CSE and Ms. V. Jaisanhari, IV ECE won the first and second prize respectively.

In addition to this, Sudh India was

conducted by imparting the necessity

of environment tidiness on Monday,

the 12th of August 2016. The club

carried out the activity at Sri

Kasiviswanathar Temple, Sanapiratti,

Karur. Under the guidance of our

coordinator Mr.T.Gobinath our Leo

volunteers thoroughly cleaned the

temple premises and were highly

appraised by the local village people.

Sudh India

“Cup of Rice” event was conducted from 07.09.2016 to 14.09.2016 in our

college. Our Principal, Dr.Mrs.A.Punitha inaugurated the event. The event is

targeted to collect a hand full of rice from each and every one in our college and

to hand over the same to the people who are really in need. The club has been

conducting this event for the past eight years. This year with a collective and

gracious contribution from our college students and staff members we have

collected 120KG of rice and dispatched to Anbalayam- Thanthonimalai, Sakthi

School for Special Children-Sanapiratti, Caring Home for Senior Citizen,

Manalmedu and Oldage Home at Vadakkupalayam.

Leo club and NSS of our college organized a General Health Checkup Camp for

our staff and students on 10.09.16.Our Principal inaugurated the camp and

appreciated the efforts of medical teams from various hospitals. With the

effective support from Medical team of Apollo Hospital-Karur, Parthasarathy

Dental Hospital-Karur, Titan Eye Plus-Karur, Karur Blood Bank, Lions Club

Independence Day Celebrations

Chettinad College of Engineering & Technology celebrated the

70thIndependence Day. Principal, Faculty members, NSS Volunteers and

students participated in this celebration. After hoisting the Flag, Patriotic

address was given by the Principal. Few students gave their inspirational

speech both in Tamil and English. Parade was done by the volunteers.

Freedom Fortnight Celebration

Our college celebrated Freedom Fortnight in view of the 70th Independence Day in

College Campus on 23rd August 2016. Principal, Faculty members and students

participated in this celebration. Principal addressed the gathering. Ms.G.Keerthana

of first year Mechanical gave an inspirational speech about the patriotic heroes. An

oath was taken. Finally, the programme came to an end with national anthem.

Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme in Our campus

An anti-ragging awareness programme was organised in our college campus on

31st August 2016. Principal, Faculty members, NSS volunteers and students

participated in this programme. Honorable District court Chief Judges

Hemalatha, Parthasarathy and Judge Velrasu created awareness on Ragging and

threw some light on its punishments. Mr.Rajasekaran, SP and Law counseling

member Mr.Chokkalingam explained the same with real time examples.

Hello FM 106.4 (KalloriSalai)

Hello FM 106.4 (KalloriSalai) conducted an one day inter-departmental cultural

competition on 3rd September 2016. Dr.J.Jasmine Alex PrabhaHoD/English,

coordinated the programme and conducted various competitions like fashion show,

mimicry, dancing, singing, mime, add show in our campus with the juries from Hello

FM. Students participated with full zeal from all the departments. Mechanical

students bagged the winner up title and Civil guys got the Runner up title.

Mr.M.Balaji of III year Civil Engineering won the Best performer award in KalloriSalai

by Hello FM. All the participants were appreciated; the winner team and the runner

team were congratulated.

Navarathri Golu Celebrations was initiated by the MBA Department and conducted

some devotional cultural activities with the involvement of all the departments.

took 5th position in yoga competition held at Karur during the month of

September 2016.

competition.

T.TamilEniyan of II year CSE has participated in District Cricket Match on

3rd& 4th Aug ’16 and participated in Zonal Level Cricket Match from

16/9/16 to 19/9/16.

Mr. D. Karthikeyan of III EEE participated in National level boxing selection

competition conducted at Nehru Stadium in Chennai, participated in

National Amateur Boxing Tournament to be conducted in Delhi in the

month of December 2016 and participated in the Pre-RD Parade held at

Anna University Regional Centre, Coimbatore, on 21.09.2016, in view of

Republic Day (2017) celebrations.

Mr. K. EsaiMurashu of IV EEE is leading the college Handball team. His team

participated in the zonal competition conducted for Zone XVII at Nadar

Saraswathi Engineering College in Theni district and won the Runner up.

For this Academic year the Season of placement is about to bloom. All the buds are

getting nurtured for their blooming stage. The department is striving hard to prove the

assured record. The initiator of this season is Ms.S.Sowmiya from ECE department got

placed in Aspire Systems and Mr.R.Lakshmanan from IT department got placed in

Surya Informatics.
