MandateEstablished by an Act of Parliament
(Act 43 of 2000)
Act became operational in September 2001, after establishment of six built environment councils for:
Architects, Engineers, Landscape Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Project and Construction Managers and Property Valuers.
To implement government’s strategy for the transformation of the Built Environment Professions.

1: Promote and protect interests of public in the built environment
2: Promote sustainable built and natural environment
3: Promote human resource development in the built environment

4: Facilitate participation by built environment professions in integrated development in context of national goals
5: Promote appropriate standards of health, safety and environmental protection
6: Promote sound governance of built environment

7: Promote liaison with Government in training standards (the Republic & elsewhere).
8: Serve as a forum for built environment professionals to discuss relevant:
qualifications, standards of education, competence, legislation (impacting on the built environment).
9: Ensure the uniform application of norms and guidelines set by the Councils for the Professions.
