Springfield, Illinois and Hannibal, Missouri Day 1 Mon. April 29 Join us at one of the eight departure cities as you begin your travel across Iowa to Springfield, Illinois. Enjoy a pizza party dinner at Fulgenzi’s. (D) Day 2 Tues. April 30 Start your day at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Learn about our great 16th President from boyhood, through his years as President during the Civil War, to his assassination at Ford’s Theatre. There will be time for lunch on your own and to stroll around town. Then we will view the stage of President Lincoln’s famous “House Divided” speech in 1858 on our tour of the Old State Capitol Historic Site (1839-1876) where after Lincoln’s assassination, his body lay in state in the House chambers. The Illinois State Capitol built in 1868-88 extends more than three blocks long. The murals and relief work inside the dome are a site to see. Statues honoring Abraham Lincoln, adorn the grounds around to capitol. Then we will visit the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon. Surrounded by the Washington Park Botanical Gardens and a reflecting pool. The 12-story bell tower holds 67 bells that weigh nearly 85,000 pounds. Dinner this evening at your hotel. (B,D) Day 3 Wed. May 1 Today we say good morning to the Lincoln Home, the only home Lincoln ever owned and where he and his family lived for 17 years. Then we are off to the Dana-Thomas House, a Frank Lloyd Wright design, built in 1902-04 for socialite, Susan Lawrence Dana. This home is one of Wrights major Prairie-Style houses and a must see. After free time for lunch we tour Route 66 Klisch and Ace Sign Company, a 75 plus year old company, with a museum of noteworthy signs. Our tour then takes us to Lincoln’s Tomb. The cemetery is an impressive monument containing Lincoln’s tomb and the crypts in which Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln and three of their four children are buried. Bronze tablets bear the text of the Gettysburg Address. (B,D) Day 4 Thurs. May 2 We arrive in Hannibaal at the Mark Twain Museum Interpretive Center where you will explore the 6 buildings of the interpretive center, including the world-famous Mark Twain Boyhood Home. Lunch is on your own at Mark Twain Dinette and Family Restaurant. We then board the Hannibal Trolley for a tour of the City. Our afternoon continues with a tour of the Rockcliffe Mansion. Our day concludes with dinner and a Haunted Hannibal Ghost Tour. Day 5, Fri. May 3 Today we step back in time and enjoy a classic car museum, Karlocks Kars and Pop Culture. Then we will break for lunch and we encourage you to splurge on a piece of “Joe-made” pie! The afternoon starts with a Mark Twain Cave Tour that Mark Twain explored as a child and wrote about in five of his books. We will also have a chance to taste Missouri wines at Cave Hollow West Winery. We will proceed to the Historic Downtown where you will have free time to explore unique stores, art galleries, antique shops and much more! The evening starts at Planters Barn Theater where Richard Garey, actor and historian, will perform Mark Twain Himself. We then embark the Mark Twain Riverboat Dinner Cruise, dine, and enjoy live music. (B,D) Day 6, Sat. May 4 After breakfast we depart Hannibal, Missouri.
