YCSO detectives seeking burglary suspect

BLACK CANYON CITY ndash Yavapai County sheriff rsquos detectives are searching for the suspect who burglarized a Black Canyon City business In a Sept 10 release YCSO noted that on Aug 28 YCSO deputies were called to the Black Canyon Community Health Center regarding a burglary

ldquoAn employee at the Health Center told deputies she arrived around 8 am noticed the back door was unlocked and that the receptionist area had been ransackedrdquo the release stated An envelope containing cash had been stolen A portable safe had also been stolen from the business ldquoThe safe is described as 2 feet by 2 feet in dimension dark grey in color with a digital keypad to unlock the door The exact monetary loss has not been disclosedrdquo

According to the report the

suspect(s) gained entry by using

a rock to smash out a front

window The burglary occurred

between 6 pm on Aug 27 when

the Health Center closed that

evening and 8 am on Aug 28

A detective from YCSOrsquos

Criminal Investigation Bureau

is investigating the incident

as well as leads obtained over

the last few days Additional

ANTHEM ndash Spirit and kindness is still alive and well in Anthem and the Friday Sept 11 football game was an especially happy one despite the Boulder Creek High School 54-3 loss on Friday night against Mountain Pointe High School At halftime the Boulder Creek Jaguars had still yet to score but the Jaguars and the community of Anthem came together to make a wish come true

The Jaguars welcomed 9-year-old Aidan Hanson an Anthem resident to the field for halftime He and his family watched and listened as the band cheerleaders and pom team played and danced to some of his favorite Disney

songs On Sept 15 2014 Aidan

was diagnosed with multiple

medical conditions including

atypical cystic fibrosis Melissa

Stevens from the Make-A-Wish

Foundation joined Aidan and his family during the halftime show Once the band finished

Lennar development annexation discussed at community meetings ELIZABETH MEDORA

STAFFANTHEM ndash The planned

Lennar development Circle Mountain Ranch to be located at the north end of 43rd Ave on the west side of Anthem may be annexed into the Anthem community The Anthem Community Council will vote on this at an evening meeting on Wednesday Sept 16 and make their recommendation to Pulte (Updates on this continuing story will be available at wwwTheFoothillsFocuscom after the Sept 16 vote)

Originally the homes were slated to be built as part of

Phoenix and while located across the street from Anthem homes the new homeowners would not have use of Anthem amenities or pay Anthem assessments Pulte has put forth a proposal to annex Circle Mountain Ranch into Anthem The homes will be built whether or not the annexation proposal goes through

The proposed annexation was discussed at two community meetings At each meeting Pulte provided details on what the home sites would look like and the projected impact on the Anthem community Construction would start as

early as 2016 with the last homes sold in 2019

According to Pulte representatives the annexation will bring in additional capital for the community including an up-front transfer fee from the builders and over $150000 each year in quarterly assessments to the Anthem Community Council

ldquoIrsquom hoping that a large amount of that money is going to be put towards new facilities and expansion and improvementrdquo Phil Turner Vice President of Land for PulteGrouprsquos Arizona Division said at the Sept 9 meeting

Disabled veteran receives donated vehicle

ANTHEM ndash Recently Mary Ann and Tom Derryberry of Anthem and the Daisy Mountain Veterans organization learned of a disabled Army veteran in need of assistance and immediately stepped forward to help

James Mathew Golden served as a Sergeant in the Military Police during one deployment to Iraq and another to Afghanistan He was honorably discharged in 2011 suffering from a traumatic brain injury PTSD and other physical issues resulting from his service

James who prefers to be called ldquoMattrdquo met his wife Farrah during his first deployment to Iraq where she was a civilian employee serving as an interpreter for US forces They were subsequently married and after a lengthy immigration process Farrah arrived in the United States in 2010 where she is now studying for citizenship Matt and Farrah have custody of his eight year-old son from a previous marriage They also have a two year-old son of their own and are expecting another child in December

In late 2014 Matt and Farrah decided to leave their home in Georgia to seek a better life A friend in Phoenix encouraged the couple to move to Arizona since it is widely known as a veteran-friendly state Sadly upon arrival here Matt had difficulty finding meaningful employment

By the time the Derryberrys and the Daisy Mountain Veterans connected with the Goldens Matt had obtained marginal employment that paid only enough to allow them to rent a run-down apartment in a crime-ridden section of Phoenix Fortunately Golden found a better-paying job as a welder near Luke Air Force Base With the help of Daisy Mountain Veterans and a group called

Veterans First the Goldens were able to move into safe housing just a mile from his new place of employment The DMV also managed to obtain furniture and other household goods for the family The organization further arranged for Matt to be evaluated and treated at the Phoenix VA But just when it seemed that the Golden family was about to begin its journey along the road to a better life their fifteen year-old vehicle expired This was their only means of transportation for work school medical appointments and other family needs

In August Mary Ann Derryberry learned that the American Legion Merrill-Mitchel Post 39 in Gilbert had a 2006 Honda Pilot that it had obtained from the local Napa Auto Care Center and was willing to donate to a deserving veteran Mary Ann wrote a letter to Chris Ellis the post commander recommending Matt Golden as the recipient Shortly afterward she received a reply that her nomination had been approved Commander Ellis then kindly agreed to meet the Goldens and present them with the vehicle Needless to say the result was a life-changing event for this young family

This is the eighth time in the past three years that the Daisy Mountain Veterans organization has helped to arrange for a needy veteran to receive a badly-needed vehicle Much recognition is also due to American Legion Post 39 and its members for their extreme generosity

Cave Creek Museum to reopen for the season on Oct 1

CAVE CREEK ndash The Cave Creek Museum will reopen for the season on Thursday Oct 1 Located at 6140 Skyline Drive the Museum features an extensive collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts that describe the lives of Native Americans miners ranchers and pioneers

The public will have a special chance to preview exhibits on Saturday Sept 26 during the free national Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day The celebration takes place 1-430 pm followed by a special pre-season membersrsquo reception 430-7 pm

During the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day guests can view Cave Creek Museumrsquos new and permanent indoor and outdoor exhibits including a historic Stamp Mill dating back to 1880 The public event from 1 pm to 430 pm will feature guests from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community including staff from the Huhugam Ki Museum They will set up for the afternoon and help educate visitors about their rich culture and history This dates back to the ancient Hohokam which is supported by Cave Creek Museumrsquos current Archaeology exhibit

The afternoon will be filled with basketry pottery leather craft beadwork and twining demonstrations The Museum staff will be exhibiting outdoor cooking and discussing information about indigenous foods from their community and the Sonoran desert

Highlights of the new season include a special saddle display monthly outside demonstrations of the historic Stamp Mill a renovated archaeology wing a new series of monthly History Highlight presentations and a new series of monthly family programs

The new History Highlight presentations will take place monthly 2 pm to 330 pm on Saturdays in

the historic church on the museumrsquos property beginning on Saturday Oct 10 with ldquoGrowing Up Cave Creekrdquo Admission is free to Museum members and $5 for non-members Reservations are suggested as seating is limited

Beginning Sunday Oct 4 the Museum will host Family Fun Activities for children and adults the first Sunday of every month 130-3 pm Family Fun Activities are free with the cost of admission and children ages 12 and under are always admitted to the museum for free Reservations are requested to ensure the museum has enough supplies on hand for everyone who wants to attend Participants in the Oct 4 ldquoOur Desert Neighborsrdquo program will learn about desert animals

The museum hours are Wednesday-Sunday 1-430 pm and Friday 10 am-430 pm Entrance fees are $5 for adults $3 for seniors and $2 for students Children 12 and under are free

CAREFREE ndash Calling all youth singers The Upscale Singers will be holding their ninth annual Scholarship Auditions on Thursday Oct 8 and Saturday Oct 10 at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church in Carefree Prizes range from $150 to $500 with the money paid directly to the voice teacher chosen by the

Trilogy Golf Club appoints new course superintendent

PEORIA ndash The Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia has announced that Curt Walloch has been appointed to the position of Golf Course Superintendent Walloch brings more than 17 years of experience to his new post He will be responsible for the overall condition of

the 18-hole golf course and surrounding grounds

I thought so Me too But sometimes people can have very clear (weird) ideas about exactly how they want to live with Nature I am realtor so I spend a whole lot of time listening to peoplersquos ldquospecial requestsrdquo And sometimes what I hear is not to be believed Read on

I had clients who wanted a ldquohouse in the pinesrdquo in Prescott so they could live in the cool mile-high climate They wanted to be ldquosurroundedrdquo by big trees They found a house that they liked and then the lady asked me which trees were ldquoflame retardantrdquo Confused I pointed out that trees can burn and you need a certain amount of clear space around buildings which she did not want to hear No this woman wanted me to identify the trees that ldquodo not burnrdquo I gave her the number of the fire department

I was working with a couple who wanted to buy horse property They found a house on five acres that they loved Problem was that the neighborrsquos little donkey named Josie kept walking up to the fence line The man said he cannot buy a house with a donkey next door because they ldquobray all day and nightrdquo Then he asked me if I would call the neighbors to see if they would ldquoget ridrdquo of Josie When I told him I wouldnrsquot do that he grumbled ldquoNo one wants to live next door to a jack-assrdquo On that point we agreed

I showed a couple a gorgeous home on the golf course in Anthem and they loved it It had amazing views from every window But the wife said she couldnrsquot stand to look at saguaros ndash they would ldquohave to gordquo When I explained that

they were on private property and State Land and I couldnrsquot move them she hissed ldquoI didnrsquot come all the way from Chicago to look out at green telephone polesrdquo Yikes did I hear that right Telephone poles

One man from Canada asked me when I was showing him a house in Scottsdale if I had ever seen a scorpion ldquoYesrdquo I replied Well how many he wanted to know I told him I have lived in Arizona since 1991 and seen ldquoquite a fewrdquo and that was it He said he couldnrsquot live in a place that had ldquodeadly crittersrdquo that could ldquosting you to deathrdquo while you were sleeping I told him I had never heard of that happening but he said if I could ldquoguaranteerdquo he would never see an evil scorpion he would buy a house from me I gave him the number of an exterminator

I was in Phoenix recently when a haboob was sweeping through town It was quite an event I was in the parking lot of Walmart and suddenly a yellow haze came over the sky followed by fierce wind and then the devil of dust storms I sat in my vehicle till it passed I showed a house the next day to a couple from California and the lady asked me how many dust storms come through a year I shrugged my shoulders and said ldquoI have no ideardquo and she told me that she wants to buy a house in Phoenix that will ldquobe out of the path of all stormsrdquo Itrsquos good to want things

While showing a couple from Ohio a house in Prescott the wife told me she ldquocannot live with the noise of cicadasrdquo because they make her nervous She wanted a house with ldquoplenty of big treesrdquo and I pointed out that cicadas like trees and we donrsquot control them She became rather indignant and asked ldquoWhat kind of town lets these noisy pests run wildrdquo I gave her the number of the local police

One time I was with a couple from Wisconsin and they were horrified to see a bull snake slithering across the driveway of a house they were thinking of buying When I tried explaining

that bull snakes were ldquogood

snakesrdquo and we usually just

left them alone the woman

screamed ldquoThe only good snake

is a dead onerdquo

Okay so people get a little

touchy with our ldquospecialrdquo kind

of nature in Arizona I get it

Who wants to be surrounded

by flammable trees stung by a

scorpion caught in a haboob

bit by a snake rattled by a

cicada bothered by a donkey

or annoyed by green telephone

poles We do And thatrsquos why

traffic impact The 202 homes to be built would have Anthem Community Center privileges if the homes are annexed into Anthem however if annexed the homeowners there will also be paying assessments and contributing to the upkeep of the community One section of the Pulte presentation at the Sept 14 meeting noted that ldquoThe negatives of the development are inevitablerdquo

If the Lennar annexation goes through Pulte has agreed to give up annexation rights for the Anthem community and put any annexation requests into the hands of the Anthem Community Council Currently Pulte has the right to fulfill any annexation requests for new developments within a 25-mile radius of Anthem If the Lennar annexation does not go through there will be no change to Pultersquos annexation rights

Anthem Community Council Board of Directors President Tim Fyke noted at the Sept 9 meeting that if this deal is approved the annexation rights would come back to Anthem through the ACC

ldquoPulte will not have a say after this to annex anything back to Anthemrdquo Fyke noted ldquoThat was as a Board one of our primary goals as wellrdquo

While Pulte has the right to annex these homes into Anthem over residents and Councilrsquos objections Pulte has previously shown deference to the Board The Board of Directors will be

voting on this issue at their Sept 16 meeting and will then give Pulte their feedback

Turner noted that Pulte has planned to give back annexation rights to the community calling that the ldquoright thing to dordquo and ldquoalways our intentionrdquo

Ryan Halleran one of the ACC Board Directors noted in the Sept 14 meeting that if the deal goes through future annexation ldquowould only happen if residents wanted to do sordquo

ldquoGoing forward Pulte would agree to basically give those declarant rights to the ACC to our community so they would not be in the position to annex any future homes in our communityrdquo Halleran said

Turner noted at the Sept 14 meeting that he couldnrsquot guarantee that Pulte would walk away from the annexation if residents didnrsquot want it but that he would tell his superiors that there was resistance from residents While Pulte has the legal right to annex they are asking the community and the Board for feedback to see how the community feels about it

Commenters asked questions and gave feedback at each meeting

ldquoWhatrsquos in it for usrdquo one commenter asked at the Sept 9 meeting Another noted that there were many questions asked but no ldquoreal answersrdquo presented

At the Sept 9 meeting a commenter suggested a compromise asking that Pulte donate land for new amenities The response was that it is not financially feasible at this time A commenter at the

Sept 14 meeting suggested that one of the two parks in the new development include a splash pad Pulte representatives did not commit to this idea but they did not turn it down outright

Towards the end of the Sept 9 meeting another commenter stood up and shared his views saying he had served on several Anthem committees noting that it was clear that one way or another the project would be built

ldquoPulte has represented to all of us tonight and to the Council and it will be in writing that they will no longer have any ability to annexrdquo he noted ldquoWhen I heard that I said that is worth goldrdquo

At the Sept 14 meeting another resident noted that the project was going to happen anyway so why not benefit

ldquoItrsquos going to happen ndash let Anthem have control of it and get money from it to help our community growrdquo she said

Turner closed the meeting by noting Pulte wants Anthem to stay beautiful and that as long as their name is on the door Pulte will remain part of the community

ldquoI consider it our responsibility to watch out for this communityrdquo Turner said

The annexation issue will be voted on at the Wednesday Sept 16 630 pm meeting Anthem Community Council Board of Directors meeting located at the Anthem Civic Building

day spin of a grim fairy tale you might call it ldquoHansel and Gretel The Documentaryrdquo Director M Night Shyamalan returns with another frightening tale where children are placed in the center of complicated sometimes perilous situations a theme utilized most prominently in his films ldquoThe Sixth Senserdquo and ldquoSignsrdquo Itrsquos a common story in horror films a topic that can heighten the moments of tension and terror if used properly Shyamalan a director whose films have been a mix of accomplishment and disappointment crafts an effective horror film with ldquoThe Visitrdquo a scaled down success of simple and strategic storytelling heavy on the ldquocreepyrdquo factor

Becca (Olivia DeJonge) and Tyler (Ed Oxenbould) are siblings who are preparing to meet their estranged grandparents for the first time Becca is an inquisitive and budding filmmaker hoping to

make this first-time meeting into a documentary Tyler does what younger brothers do besthellipannoy their older sisters though Tyler will occasionally break out into a rapping freestyle to add insult to injury Becca and Tylerrsquos Mom (Kathryn Hahn) is a single parent who left her family as a teenager under secretive circumstances The kids arrive in a cozy small town greeted by Nana

(Deanna Dunagan) and Pop Pop (Peter McRobbie) at the train station The two eager grandparents are loving and caring if a little absentminded However once the sun goes down everything changes

Shyamalan has always been good at building his characters with ldquoThe Visitrdquo he takes a natural approach to establishing the relationship between the siblings and the connection with

their lone parent The journey for these children to meet their grandparents is partly a way for them to understand their mother who comes off a bit disheartened by her life thus far and to come to terms with the emotional distress caused by the abandonment of their father a decision that has left damaging emotional impressions on the children Shyamalan touches on these aspects with very minimal direct referencing an attribute to the tightly composed narrative and the abilities of the young actors playing these roles This early development creates an essential investment with the characters one that Shyamalan manipulates as soon as the strange and unusual begins to happen at Nana and Pop Poprsquos house While not necessarily scary though the annoyingly forced jump scares try to evoke this feeling itrsquos the unusual behavior of the grandparents that becomes unnerving Nana chasing the kids in a

creepy crawling position while whispering ldquoIrsquom gonna get yardquo is one memorable instance

The film builds to a great climax before the inevitable reveal of the mystery arrives a defining quality that has followed Shyamalan throughout his career Itrsquos neither disappointing nor satisfying here which is a good thing because the ending simply works to accommodate the structure of the story that has been told

ldquoThe Visitrdquo plays like a campfire tale while finding inspiration from a bunch of different horror films Ploys like an old dark house wolf-in-sheeprsquos-clothing monsters and the hand-held horror techniques are some of the genre characteristics that are utilized by Shyamalan While some of time this works other times it falls into familiar trappings Still ldquoThe Visitrdquo is effectively strange enough to keep one watching until the end

McKenzie 16 of Anthem made it to US Open quarterfinals

ANTHEM ndash Kylie McKenzie continues to take the world of tennis by storm

Anthem resident McKenzie who is 16 years old won three matches at the junior US Open in New York last week and made it into the quarterfinals

According to a release from the United States Tennis Association McKenzie upset the No 3-ranked junior player in the world on Sept 8 in the second round at the US Open Junior Championships McKenzie received a USTA wild card into the tournament

She shocked the No 3-seeded Russian Anna Blinkova 6-1 6-4 Blinkova was a singles finalist at the Wimbledon Junior tournament in July

ldquoI felt the heat get to me a little bit in the second set when I was up 3-1rdquo McKenzie said ldquoTo get here as a wild card and to win two rounds is pretty excitingrdquo She added ldquoThis has to be one of my biggest wins ever since itrsquos at the US Openrdquo

McKenzie was coached at the Open by former Arizona State menrsquos coach Lou Belken

McKenzie had her US

Open Junior singles run end on Friday Sept 11m as she fell in the quarterfinals to No 11-seed Fanny Stollar of Hungary in three sets at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center

NORTH VALLEY ndash Arizonarsquos sportsmen and sportswomen will have an opportunity to help conserve their favorite public hunting and fishing destinations by participating in the Sportsmanrsquos Values Mapping Project a statewide effort being launched by the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and the Arizona Game and Fish Department in cooperation with several state sportsmenrsquos groups

The department soon will be mailing postcards to a random sample of individuals who have purchased Arizona hunting and fishing licenses inviting them to participate in the survey and directing them to a Web site

that allows them to draw their favorite areas on a map

That input will be combined and assembled in a geographic information system (GIS) where it will be overlaid with maps of critical habitat migration routes land ownership and other data The resulting maps will provide important and previously unavailable data to state and federal agencies for the following purposes bull Balance other land uses with

the needs of fish wildlife and sportsmen

bull Identify areas needing stronger conservation efforts or expansion of hunting and angling opportunities

bull Identify key high-use areas warranting special

conservation strategies because of their value to sportsmen

Auditions to be held for Upscale Kids singing group

NORTH VALLEY ndash Calling all youth singers in grades 2-8 Upscale Kids part of the Upscale Singers is holding auditions on Tuesday Oct 6 5-6 pm

The Upscale Singers are a north valley community choir The Upscale Kids are a kidsrsquo choir they will perform at the Upscale Singersrsquo lsquoSongs of the Seasonrsquo holiday concert

To audition kids need to perform one song from memory They need to bring sheet music or pre-recorded accompaniment on CD cell phone or iPod Audition judges will be looking for stage presence and the ability to sing from memory along with musical abilities

Once auditions are complete rehearsals will begin Rehearsals will be held every Tuesday

letter to the editorI was in Anthem for the first

time at the end of August I was there with my cousin and her husband and my brother and sister-in-law who own a home there We were there enjoying a few pleasurable days together shopping dining enjoying the heat and the pool and mainly each otherrsquos company

My brother and my cousin and I decided to hike Daisy Mountain on the morning of Monday August 31 We set out at 7 AM in the sun and heat and reached the top by approximately 830 AM We were pleased with ourselves and we took pictures and enjoyed a slight breeze at the top then started our descent About halfway down I started to feel exhausted and was having trouble keeping pace It wasnrsquot long before I was huffing and puffing my fingers were swelling and I could hardly walk 5 feet without having to stop and rest We had very little water left and still had a fair way to go

My brother had me hold on to his hand which was reached over his right shoulder and I followed right behind him until we made it to a point where we could see the path down below He thought

it would be best to go ahead and leave my cousin and me behind so he could retrieve the car from his home and come back for us At that very moment in time there was a man standing in our path on his way down My brother asked him if he had any extra water and he said no Irsquom sorry I donrsquot I would give it to you if I did When I heard that I thought what a kind person he was My brother set out and this man asked if I would like him to stay behind and help me down the hill I graciously accepted his offer He even went so far as to ask if I wanted to be carried I felt that I could walk so I said no thank you but he did allow me to take his arm for support and he guided me down the remaining part of the hill which included several switchbacks and a couple of small hills He also put the wet towel that he had on his neck around my neck without hesitation

My cousin and this lovely man named Beau carried on a pleasant conversation only to realize that we are fellow Canadians and have found ourselves living in or visiting the United States for different reasons all of us parents and the

one main goal we had that day was to enjoy Daisy Mountain Unfortunately for me the heat took over and without the help of this wonderful man I donrsquot know if I wouldrsquove made it to the bottom safely We got to the bottom and coincidently he knew someone (whose name is Jeff) that lived in the house across the street from the path They got me into the shade and Jeff was kind enough to provide a cold drink which I guzzled down quickly and started to feel better instantly My brother arrived in the air-conditioned car and after many thanks to both Jeff and Beau we headed home where I was able to take a very cool shower and bring my body temperature down to normal immediately

I was very touched by the kindness that Beau showed and wanted to tell my story as it is a true story of humanity kindness and as I told him he is my heroThank you Beau

Albert Einstein observed ldquoIt is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledgerdquo This was truly the case as local photographer Jerry Sieve started his first journey into the world of the photographic image

Growing up in Cincinnati Ohio Jerry began making pilgrimages to Arizona in the 1960s He was captivated by the surreal landscapes of the desert southwest sculpted by relentless winds rushing water and intense baking sun landscapes that changed ever so lightly moment by moment

Finally convinced the Ohio winters were not getting any warmer Jerry moved to the Valley of the Sun in 1974 In 1976 Jerry enrolled at Glendale Community College to study photography under well-known and high acclaimed photographer Willis ldquoPeterdquo Peterson a relationship that has continued to this day With Petersquos guidance through the land of manually set cameras canisters of film f-stops and a wide variety of lenses Jerry found his lifersquos passion By December 1977 Jerry was a published photographer in that monthrsquos Arizona Highways Magazine With the skills acquired for success Jerry left school to work for the next 30 years as a professional landscape photographer To date he has had over 3000 images published 600

of them in Arizona Highways alone along with 11 covers to his credit

Jerry reflects on his evolution from student of photography to an award winning professional photographer and finally as a teacher himself He feels aesthetic vision evolves over time Looking back at his work over a 35-year career he can identify the period of time when a particular image was made just by the style and vision the image evokes In his early career he followed the style of the ldquoGroup F64rdquo photographers In those landscapes people were almost never seen and the land took on an almost environmental-utopian look The goal was to show the immense beauty of the natural world Obviously Jerry was extremely successful in mastering the technique through his images many of which we have enjoyed in Arizona Highways over the years

Today Jerry is looking in a different direction Part of what has freed him up to be even more creative is his decision to become a photography teacher with Paradise Valley Community College Teaching has provided the time and space

for him to consider other aspects of making images moving away from his signature landscapes into images including people objects and symbolic statements with a direct link to formalism Jerry has also transitioned from color images of his past work into monochromatic images He feels it is easier to be expressive in black and white because the viewer is not distracted by strong color Instead the photograph becomes about the negativepositive space creating shapes with the contract of dark and light a process some would say is coming full circle back to the concept ldquoless is morerdquo

To honor the relationship with his teacher and his student as well as provide a retrospective of iconic Arizona images Jerry has organized an exhibit called MentorhellipTeacherhellipStudent The exhibit will be on display at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek from Sept 22-Oct 5 during library hours Jerry Sieve will do a ldquoWalk-throughrdquo of the exhibit on Sept 26 at 1 pm Everyone is welcome Donrsquot miss the opportunity to view almost 100 years of fascinating images captured by three of Arizonarsquos most gifted photographers

playing Aidan was escorted out to center field where his one true wish to visit Disney World was granted The fans who came out to Fridayrsquos game helped Aidan celebrate his trip by dressing up as their favorite Disney characters

Jessica McMillen the mother of Aidan described this experience as ldquoIncredible and have no words for it Itrsquos amazingrdquo

Stevens is a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and set out to make this a community event to support Aidan and his family Stevens reached out to the community of Anthem and Boulder Creek and ldquoEveryone got involved

whether itrsquos the football team the cheer team the pom team the assistant principal who I met with multiple times and they just coordinated with each other to try to figure out exactly how we can coordinate this so it is a surprise for himrdquo

Aidan is not able to go to school and is in the hospital at least once a month usually for two weeks at a time according to McMillen

McMillen says ldquoItrsquos tough especially with my other son starting school because I have to be with Aidan and my other son is up with my parents so I donrsquot get to see him as often as I would like to Itrsquos definitely toughrdquo

Aidan will leave for Disney World in two weeks after he heads to Boston next week for some testing on his motility issues

The game definitely had its highlights Seniors Tucker Hartmann and Blake Labno both had some great plays for the Jaguars including a fumble during a kickoff return Even though the game did not end up the way the Jaguars would have liked everyone left with a smile on their face knowing they helped someone win today

The annexation of Circle Mountain Ranch has raised emotions and raised past broken promises from Pulte Here are some questions to ponder for the upcoming meeting bull What is wrong with what we

have without annexing Circle Mountain Ranch

bull Are our financials in jeopardy without annexing

bull The FAQrsquos avoided direct answers For example capacity impact on the Community Center The opportunity to provide an answer was given but it was blown Any forthcoming figures will be viewed with skepticism ldquoThe fox watching the chickensrdquo

bull The Community Park that we paid for as an amenity when we bought our homes is sign posted for ldquoAnthem Residentsrdquo It is not enforced therefore the argument that Circle Mountain will use it has no merit everyone in a 50 mile radius can use it Even those that get off I-17 eat in Anthem and relax afterwards in the park on their way to the Grand Canyon or equivalent

bull Pulte cannot be trusted Remember the water business and the class action suit regarding non-disclosure of the infrastructure

bull What is the annexation in for Pulte Are they doing it out of their hearts Doubt it Itrsquos most

likely a deal between them and Lennar as an incentive for Lennar to sell homes at a shorter sellout time Will Pulte get any kickback from each home sold Ask them Itrsquos like the Iran deal

bull Safety and scheduling issues at the Community Center pool and other items will increase Do we need this

bull If Pulte is to be trusted and the community votes NO then their true skin will be revealed Otherwise the media will jump all over them and put them in a ldquoblack cloudrdquo And the Council will suffer

bull The right for Pulte to annex properties was a ldquohiddenrdquo fact in our controlling documents unlike they have the final word on changing CCampRrsquos or building on remaining Anthem properties owned by Pulte How many past and present Board members knew this and if so it was poorly communicatedThe Council has not

stated in recent months any financial needs to maintain our community Money is not the driver and should be put aside for the well being of Anthem residents on this issue Del WebbPulte built Anthem and its amenities based upon a population for our planned community There is nothing wrong the way it is so please keep it that way
