Page 1: FOOTBALL BREAKING NEWS: Friday, November 12, 2010 C3media.lehighvalleylive.com/today_impact/other/FEARLESS... · 2016. 11. 15. · Hurricanes are better team now and they’ll return

down here at the bottom withme.

As long as I’ve coveredfootball in these parts, I alsorecognize that this is this mostcritical week of the season be-cause it’s (drum roll, please)contingency week in the NJSI-AA. There’s nothing that putshair on your chest more thanpicking that Warren Hills-Par-sippany Hills winner or whoyou like in that Voorhees-Bor-dentown clash.

While we all agonize overthese playoff and contingencymatchups, I’d like to sharewith you a quote from RobRyan, defensive coordinatorfor the Cleveland Browns whowill be going up against hisbrother Rex and the New YorkJets this weekend.

“My whole goal was to beable to have my own trailer, live in that and coach football,”Rob Ryan said. “That was mylife’s ambition. Apparentlythat’s grown now. My wife ison track with a new role forme; she wasn’t too big on thattrailer deal. But honest to Godthat’s how we look at things.”

I think Rob Ryan is a manafter my own bag. Just likeme, he’s striving to becometrailer court trash. Somedaywe both may realize ourdream and make it back thereto the mobile home park.

Oh, and by the way, I havea little reminder for all youcoaches in the region. Gentle-men, if I’m talking to you aftera game, your careers are reallygoing down the tubes.

Enough of this nonsense.Let’s talk football:Tonight’s games

Delaware Valley at Easton— It’s a long bus ride fromPike County to Easton and thecaliber of football they play upin that neck of the woods is along way from the Lehigh Val-ley Conference, too. Easton41-14.

Williamsport at Nazareth— Another long road trip forMillionaires, who match upsomewhat favorably with BlueEagles. Rob Melosky is stillleaving newsboy cap in thecloset despite calls to bring itout of mothballs. Could this bethe week? Nazareth 28-20.

Parkland at Liberty —This is a return match of Oct.1 game won by Parkland. ButHurricanes are better teamnow and they’ll return the fa-vor. Liberty 24-17.

Berwick at Bangor — An-other long trip for Berwickwhile Bangor has to likely playanother week without the in-jured Scott LaValva. It won’tmatter. Bangor 16-14.

Franklin at Phillipsburg —Stateliners beat Franklin 34-21during regular season in Som-erset, N.J. Change of venuewon’t alter anything. Phillips-burg 35-20.

Holmdel at Delaware Val-ley — This is the first of fiveNJSIAA contingency gamesand, like I said earlier, theseare the kinds of games thatseparate the champs from thechumps. Haven’t gone against

my man, Mike Columbo, allseason and I’m not going tostart now. Delaware Valley 20-14.

Parsippany Hills at WarrenHills — They don’t get anyeasier do they? Both teamsstruggling through 1-8 seasons. One thing I’ve found outabout contingency games: Oneteam generally comes to playand the other is just happy theseason will be over. WarrenHills 13-12.

North Hunterdon at Union— Both teams come in 3-5and if the NJSIAA could findtwo teams that were moreevenly matched, it would haveto look far and long to locatethem. Unknown Scribe’s ruleof thumb is, if it’s a coin flip,go with the locals. North Hun-terdon 18-17.

Bordentown at Voorhees— My Viking homies are 2-6going up against a 1-7 Borden-town team and the two haveplayed no common opponents.Doesn’t get any more intrigu-ing than this. Voorhees 14-6.

Hackettstown at Ridge-field Park — Like I said pre-viously, these contingencygames are bound to put hairon your chest and this one isno exception. I know theTigers are on the road but …Hackettstown 17-16.Saturday’s games

North Schuylkill at Pen Ar-gyl — Do you think the Spar-tans, who are unbeaten, mightbe a little angry having todrive to Pen Argyl for thisgame? But the Green Knightswill use their anger againstthem. Pen Argyl 20-19.

Pius X at Williams Valley— My Royals make the longroad trip up to Tower City, theYukon Territory of District 11.Pius X has won seven straightafter 0-3 start, so why stop thisout-of-control train now? PiusX 34-27.

Belvidere at Dayton —Love to ride the CountySeaters wagon but can’t dis-miss their 33-6 loss to theBulldogs on Oct. 15 inBelvidere. Dayton’s headcoach is Joe Goerge, who wasformerly at Franklin. Dayton40-7.

North Warren at MountainLakes — Patriots, who are inthe NJSIAA playoffs for onlythe second time in school his-tory, are surprise team of theyear. There’s always one hugeupset in the first week of theN.J. playoffs and this is theone. I’ll go through a cheese-cloth curtain for my Patriots.North Warren 19-18.

Holy Cross at Lafayette —Yeah, I know Crusaders arethe slight favorite. But theLeopards are home and theyare the best 2-7 team in thenation. Lafayette 27-24.

Lehigh at Georgetown —Mountain Hawks already haveone hand on the PatriotLeague trophy. Saturday theother hand will be on it.Lehigh 30-16.

Muhlenberg at Moravian— This looked like a mis-match about a month ago butquarterback Matt Johnson hasinjected Greyhound offensewith new life. It’ll be close but… Muhlenberg 28-21.

Penn State at Ohio State— JoePa got his 400th win

when his Nittany Lions camethrough with stirring second-half performance againstNorthwestern last week. Butunless the late Woody Hayesreturns to the Buckeye side-

line … Ohio State 27-10.Syracuse at Rutgers —

This is almost like an NJSIAAcontingency game, it’s such apick-’em. Orangemen are re-turning to their former self as

an eastern power. Syracuse33-23.

East Stroudsburg at Edin-boro — Warriors get to seewhat the Keystone State lookslike on this road trip. Edinboro

is 6-4 and ESU is 3-7 butteams match up better thanrecords would indicate. IfWarriors were home, I mightthink differently. Edinboro 35-31.
