Kindy Days Week 8

Due to the Kindy children not being involved in the Athletics Carnival, their Friday of Week 8 will

change to a Wednesday. I hope that this will not inconvenience anyone.

Material

We would appreciate any donations of unwanted material, ribbons, lace etc for Art activities.

Handyman Advice Needed

We have just purchased new desks for the Senior Room. The previous desks which had been repaired

many times are no longer of any use. However, I would like to recycle the desk tops for an Art project

in Term 4. Can anyone advise on how to prepare the surface which I think is formica?

Fathers’ Day at MRPS

We are looking forward to seeing many Dads at our Fathers’ Day celebration next Monday 04.09.17 at

9.00 am. I am sure the children will enjoy their time with their Dads. If for some reason “Dad: cannot

come, then Grandfathers are very welcome. An invitation was sent home today with the incorrect date

on it. It should have read Monday, 4th September.

Liz Borona has some large pieces of rubbish that need to go to the dump. If any Dad has a ute or

largish vehicle and could take this rubbish to the dump, it would be greatly appreciated.

Major outback motoring adventure across WA to

help kids with cancer

WesCarpade is Camp Quality’s outback motoring adventure held in Western Australia. A fleet of 25+

quirky themed vehicles will be travelling over 2,000km on a round trip from Armadale to Northam on

15 -21 October 2017.

This year WesCarpade sets off from Armadale on Sunday 15 October, heading south through the

Great Southern, looping back around the Goldfields and finishing with a community inspired finale

event on Saturday 21 October.

The event has attracted entrants from Donnybrook, Bunbury and Bridgetown, as well as Perth and as

far as Geraldton this year. Each car must be at least 20 years old, and each team spends the year

theming their cars, making it roadworthy and encouraging people to sponsor them for their week-long

adventure. The event is fully supported by dedicated volunteer officials, including local business and

community groups.

Nedge Sinanovski, Camp Quality’s General Manager Programs and Community Fundraising said: “We’re

so humbled by local businesses donating their goods and services to this event to ensure our running

costs are kept low and more money goes to our deserving families. These generous local companies

include Holden, St Johns Ambulance, GJ Freight Donnybrook, Bunbury Plumbing Services and Allmark.”

The aim is to raise an engine-busting $500,000 - enough for Camp Quality to support a further 70

families who have a child living with cancer for the next year, through their resilience-building

programs.

Chris ‘Millsy’ Mills, former weatherman for GWN7, said: “This is the sixth Camp Quality wesCarpade

I’ve been on, and I love it every single year. We get to dress up like fools and drive through the

beautiful outback. But most importantly, we’re raising essential funds for a great cause – helping Camp

Quality to create a better life for kids living with cancer.” Along the way, the 25+ quirky cars will pull

into towns in a fanfare of sirens, horns, water cannons, lights and colour in true Camp Quality style.

Healthy Food and Drink Policy

All Government, Independent and Catholic schools in Western Australia use a traffic light system to

ensure that their students are being offered heatlhy and nutritious food within the school setting.

This traffic light system- also known as the Healthy Food and Drink policy- categorises food according

to it’s nutritional content. For example;

Green foods include foods that should make up the majority of our diet, and which should be eaten

every day such as fruit, vegetables and reduced fat dairy products.

Amber foods have some nutritional value, but should be used sparingly and in moderation. Amber foods

include some pre packaged items like oven baked chips, full fat cheeses and yoghurts and some

breakfast bars.

Red foods are food and drinks that are not part of a healthy diet such as lollies, chocolates and soft

drinks. “Red” food should not be offered within the school setting and they provide not nutritional

benefit for children, and are not conducive to learning.

Parents can help to support this policy by providing healthy lunches to their children which includes a

wide range of ‘Green’ foods such as:

A cheese and lettuce wrap

An English muffin with tomato pased, capscium, ham and cheese

Wholegrain crackers with hummus dip and cherry tomatoes

Rice salad with corn, capsicum, tomato and three bean mix.

As well as a healthy snack such as vegetables and dib, a tub of yoghurt or some fresh fruit.

By providing your child with a healthy lunch, you wil be setting them up with good lifelong habits.

Healthy lunches help children to be better able to concentrate at school and gives them more engery

to play and learn.

Quick Tip

Pack a frozen drink or ice brick in your child’s lunchbox to help keep food fresh and safe to eat.

A Healthy Habit Reminder from the Junior Room

It is important to limit screen time to no more than 2 hours per day. Screen time includes television,
