Based on its strong agricultural sector, Argentina is the eighth largest food producer in the world and the fifth largest exporter of food. Annually, about 35 million of hectares are grown, including grains, oilseeds, industrial crops, vegetables and fruits. Altogether, the agricultural industry has the greatest potential for growth in the country.

At present, about 50% of companies in Argentina are somehow involved in the food industry, and account 38% of total exports, 12.4% of the country’s GDP and 11% of employment. The main export markets are neighboring countries, countries of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union.

United States is the fourth largest market for Argentine food exports, after China, Brazil and Chile. In 2012, Argentina sold USD 1.4 billion, showing

an increase in shipments of 34.3% compared to 2008. The main items traded are: Beverages, spirits and vinegar; Processed vegetables and fruits; Honey; Fresh fruits; and cereals. All of them reported positive changes in recent years and represent, in aggregate, 68.5% of the food exported to the United States.

The first category consists of wine in its various forms: bottled, bulk and sparkling wine. The traditional wine industry of Argentina gained further recognition in the late 1990s and grew rapidly, making the country the eighth largest exporter. The benefits of its soil and climate made the country ideal for the production of wines of attractive price and high quality.

Within the “Processed vegetables and fruits” group we can find: juices, such as grape juice, concentrate apple juice
